Why golf in Mexico

Mexico has quietly become one of the great warm weather golf destinations, and the names tell you why. At the tip of Baja California, Los Cabos packs signature courses by Jack Nicklaus, Davis Love III and Tiger Woods into a few desert miles where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez, with Quivira on the cliffs and the dunes of Diamante among the best courses in Latin America. Across the country, Punta Mita on the Riviera Nayarit holds the Tail of the Whale, the only natural island green in the game, and the Riviera Maya's El Camaleon at Mayakoba was the first PGA Tour course in the country.

The draw is the blend of tour grade golf, luxury resorts and reliable sun, all on a short to medium flight from North America. Los Cabos is the most reliable for weather and the most concentrated for golf, the Riviera Maya and Cancun pair their courses with vast all inclusive resorts and the Caribbean, and Puerto Vallarta adds the Pacific drama of Punta Mita. Whether the trip is a five star bucket list or an all inclusive golf and beach week, Mexico answers, and the food, the service and the value seal it.

The regions

Los Cabos

The premier region at the tip of Baja: Quivira, Diamante, Cabo Real and Puerto Los Cabos, desert and ocean golf by the game's biggest names, with the most reliable winter weather.

Riviera Maya and Cancun

PGA Tour golf at El Camaleon plus Nicklaus and Norman resort courses, paired with huge all inclusive resorts and the Caribbean south of Cancun.

Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit

The Pacific golf of Punta Mita, with its famous island par 3, and the Vidanta and Vallarta courses, paired with the beaches and the old town of Puerto Vallarta.

Getting there and around

Mexico is an easy reach from North America and increasingly from Europe. Los Cabos International at San Jose del Cabo serves the Baja golf, with the marquee courses within a short drive of the airport and the resort corridor. Cancun is the gateway for the Riviera Maya, a busy hub with direct flights from across the Americas and Europe, while Puerto Vallarta serves Punta Mita and the Riviera Nayarit. Within each region a private transfer or a hire car covers the short hops between resort and course, and a planned tee sheet keeps the days easy. Crossing the country between regions means a domestic flight rather than a drive.

Where to stay

Match the base to the region. In Los Cabos, the resort corridor between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, or the Diamante and Pueblo Bonito properties, keep the golf close, with five star options for a bucket list week. On the Riviera Maya, the Mayakoba resorts put you on the PGA Tour course, while the Cancun and Playa del Carmen all inclusives suit a golf and beach holiday. At Punta Mita, the Four Seasons and St Regis frame the Nicklaus courses. Book the resort hotels well ahead for the winter peaks, and let one planner match the base to each leg.

Los Cabos at the tip of Baja is the premier golf region, with signature courses by Nicklaus, Davis Love III and Tiger Woods close together and the most reliable winter weather. The Riviera Maya pairs PGA Tour golf with huge all inclusive resorts, and Puerto Vallarta adds the Nicklaus courses of Punta Mita. Many trips combine two regions.

How much does a golf trip to Mexico cost in 2026?

Indicative 2026 high season green fees for the premier Los Cabos courses run roughly $300 to $450, with Quivira around $380 for a prime morning round, while Riviera Maya resort courses are often discounted for guests.
