Chileno Bay
Tom Fazio carved a par 72 of about 7,260 yards into the desert hillside above the Sea of Cortez in 2016, with ocean views from every hole and a rugged, roughless look that hides real teeth. Private and Discovery Land run, it is widely rated the finest course in Los Cabos.

The verdict
Los Cabos has become one of the densest collections of great resort golf on the planet, and even in that company Chileno Bay stands out. Tom Fazio, working for Discovery Land Company, laid the course out high on a bench of desert above the Sea of Cortez so that the ocean is in view on all 18 holes, then gave it the trademark Discovery polish: immaculate turf, generous landing areas and a sense of calm, exclusive space. It is manicured to perfection and, for many who have played the corridor, simply the best course in the region.
Do not let the wide fairways fool you. There is almost no rough, but the short grass is ringed by penal native scrub and rugged, sandy bunkering, so a loose shot is not punished by a hack out of the cabbage, it is gone altogether. From the tips the slope touches 145, yet the strategic options make it inviting from the right tees. The catch is access: this is a private members club, not a tee time you can book online, which is what makes getting on it such a prize.

Designer, opening year, par and yardage verified June 2026 from Discovery Land Company, the club and leading course databases. The course was designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 2016, a par 72 of about 7,260 yards with a slope reaching 145. Chileno Bay is a private club, so there is no published public green fee; access runs through membership or the residential and resort program. Arrangements change, so always confirm directly before planning a visit.
The holes worth the trip
The strategic heart of the round is the par 3 eighth, played from an elevated tee over native grasses and bunkers to a green set against the blue of the Sea of Cortez. It is the kind of short hole Fazio builds better than almost anyone, beautiful and intimidating in equal measure, where the eye is pulled to the ocean and the swing has to stay committed to the line.
The finish is just as memorable. The 18th is a long par 4 of around 512 yards that runs back toward the clubhouse to an infinity green that seems to spill straight into the ocean behind it, a closing hole built for drama and for the last walk up of the day. In between, the routing rises and falls across the desert bench so that elevation and wind, more than length, dictate club selection.
The overall impression is of a course that flatters and tests at the same time. Average players can enjoy the width and the views, while better players are drawn into the angles, the firm greens and the ever present temptation to flirt with the scrub. Add the Discovery standard of conditioning and it is easy to see why it tops so many Los Cabos rankings.

If Chileno Bay is out of reach on your dates, we can build a Los Cabos trip around the corridor's outstanding public and resort courses instead.
Where to stay nearby
The club's own resort, the Auberge managed property at Chileno Bay, is the natural base for anyone with access, sitting right on one of the few genuinely swimmable beaches on the corridor. It pairs the golf with a serious beach and wellness offering, which makes it a strong choice for a group that mixes players and non players.
For visitors without a route onto Chileno Bay itself, the wider Tourist Corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo is lined with high end resorts within easy reach of the region's many excellent courses. We typically build a Los Cabos trip around three or four rounds at the best accessible layouts, with a single comfortable base and short transfers up and down the corridor.
