Editorial and review policy

How we research, rank and verify every course, why you can trust our verdicts, and exactly how we make money. Independence first, always.

A guide is only worth as much as its independence and its accuracy. Here is how we protect both.

Who we are

GolfForKings is an independent guide to the world's best golf courses and golf trips, written by golfers for golfers who travel. We are part of the for kings family of premium directories. We are a guide and a trip planner. We are not a tour operator selling one fixed product, and we are not owned by any course, resort or operator.

How we rank

Our rankings are editorial judgments, formed from play, from reporting, and from the consensus of respected ratings panels read critically rather than copied. A course earns its position on merit: the quality of the design, the conditioning, the setting, the strength of the routing, and how it actually rewards the traveling golfer. We say plainly when a course is overrated, when a famous name is coasting, and when a lesser known layout deserves the trip.

How we verify facts

Every factual claim about a course, the architect, the year it opened, the par, the yardage and the green fee, is checked against primary and reputable sources at the time of writing. Where a number changes from season to season, we mark it indicative, we give the season and the year, and we add the line to always confirm directly before booking. We never invent a number, a review or a quote. When we are not certain, we say so.

Green fees and prices

We never quote our own pricing, because we are a guide rather than an operator. Third party green fees and package ranges are reported as content, always with the season and year they applied and a clear note to confirm with the club or operator before you book. Prices move, currencies move, and peak and off peak rates differ widely, so treat every figure as a guide to the order of magnitude rather than a quote.

Editorial independence

No course, resort or operator can buy a ranking, a verdict or a place on a list. Commercial relationships never influence editorial judgments, and the people who write our reviews are kept separate from the commercial side of the business. If we ever change our view on a course, we change it because the golf changed, not because the commercial relationship did.

How we make money

We earn in a few transparent ways. Our highest value path is the trip enquiry: when you send a brief, we hand it to vetted operators and resorts who pay us for a qualified introduction, and you pay no fee to plan. We also use affiliate links for tee time bookings and hotels, which may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. And we run The Tee Sheet newsletter. None of these change what we recommend. As our disclosure on every page says, GolfForKings is an independent guide, and we may earn a commission from partners when you book through our links.

Corrections

We want to be right. If you spot an error, an out of date fee or a course detail that has changed, tell us and we will check it and correct it quickly. Accuracy is the whole point of a guide worth trusting.
