Who it suits

Championship golf wrapped in a beach holiday

The Riviera Maya suits the golfer who wants marquee, tournament tested courses without leaving an easy beach holiday behind. Flights land at Cancun, the resorts are vast and all inclusive, and the headline rounds are genuinely world class.

It is a strong choice for couples, families and mixed groups as much as buddies trips, because the non golf days, cenotes, Tulum, the Cozumel reef, are some of the best anywhere. One base near Playa del Carmen reaches most of the golf inside an hour.

When to book

November to April is the dry window

The comfortable, dry season runs November to April, with lower humidity and little rain. May to October is hotter and wetter, and the Atlantic hurricane season peaks from August to October, though resort rates and green fees fall in the low season.

Book El Camaleon and the resort tee times early for the winter peak, when North American golfers fill the coast. Sargassum seaweed can affect the beaches in late spring and summer, so check conditions if the beach matters as much as the golf.
