The low cost routes into Girona Costa Brava airport put you about six kilometers from the gates of Camiral, so a long weekend works in a way it simply cannot when you are routing through a major hub: there is no transfer to absorb, no motorway hour before the first round. That makes this the trip for two to eight golfers who want the most coveted tee time in Catalonia, the Stadium Course, wrapped in a real city rather than a resort bubble, with the Roca brothers' El Celler de Can Roca, twice named the best restaurant in the world, as the celebration dinner if the putts drop.
It also suits the split party. Girona's old town, river houses and cathedral keep non golfers genuinely happy while the players are out, and the high speed train reaches Barcelona in around 38 minutes for a day trip. The day trip east, 40 to 45 minutes from the city on the plain behind Pals.
