4 Day Lisbon and Silver Coast Golf Itinerary

A long weekend of Atlantic golf either side of Lisbon, far quieter than the Algarve and just as good. Open on the Cascais coast at Oitavos Dunes, one of the finest courses in Portugal, then run north to the wild dunescape links of the Silver Coast at Praia d'El Rey and West Cliffs. Here is the four day plan, flown in and out of Lisbon, with indicative 2026 green fees and drive times.

Who this trip suits

This is the smart short break for the golfer who knows the Algarve and wants the other Portugal, the cooler, greener Atlantic coast that bookends Lisbon. Four days gives you three excellent rounds with city evenings and coast drives in between, an easy long weekend from across Europe with a single airport and short transfers. It suits a couple pairing golf with Lisbon and Sintra, a small group wanting quality without the crowds, and anyone who loves true windswept duneland golf, because the Silver Coast links are as raw and natural as Portugal gets.

We have routed it west to north, starting on the Cascais coast at Oitavos Dunes, then moving an hour up to the Silver Coast around Obidos for Praia d'El Rey and West Cliffs, which sit side by side. The order can flex to chase tee times, and any round can be swapped for the Seve Ballesteros design at Royal Obidos or the Robert Trent Jones course at Quinta da Marinha back near Cascais. A hire car is essential, and the evenings belong to Lisbon's restaurants, the surf town of Obidos and the Atlantic light.

The 4 day plan

Day 1Arrive Cascais

Land in Lisbon, base in Cascais

Lisbon airport · 35 minutes to the coast

Fly into Lisbon, collect the hire car and drive thirty five minutes west to Cascais, the elegant resort town on the Estoril coast. Settle in, walk the seafront, and have your first dinner of grilled fish looking out at the Atlantic you play in the morning.

Day 2Oitavos Dunes

Oitavos Dunes, Cascais

Arthur Hills 2001, par 71 · around 155 euros

Open the trip on the best of the Lisbon coast, an Arthur Hills design from 2001 set inside the Sintra Cascais Natural Park among reforested dunes and umbrella pines, with the Atlantic on one side and the Sintra hills on the other. Routinely ranked among the top courses in Portugal and continental Europe, it is a serious, windswept test on sandy turf. An indicative 155 euros in peak season and a glorious start.

Day 3Praia d'El Rey

Praia d'El Rey, Silver Coast

Cabell Robinson 1997, par 72 · around 120 euros

Drive an hour north to the Silver Coast near Obidos and Peniche, and the dunescape of Praia d'El Rey, a Cabell Robinson design from 1997 that runs through pine and tumbling dunes to a stretch of holes hard against the beach, with views to the Berlenga islands. Long rated one of Europe's most beautiful courses. An indicative 120 euros, and base in the area for the final night.

Day 4West Cliffs and home

West Cliffs, then fly home

Cynthia Dye 2017, links · around 135 euros

Finish next door at West Cliffs, a modern Dye Designs links opened in 2017 that rides the clifftops and dunes above the Atlantic, all fescue, wind and big sea views, and one of the most exciting newer courses in the country. An indicative 135 euros, then the ninety minute drive back to Lisbon for the flight home, or another night to add Royal Obidos before you leave.

When to go and where to stay

Play the trip in spring or autumn for the best blend of mild weather, value and quiet tee sheets, roughly March to May and September to November, though the Lisbon coast stays playable through a warm winter that draws northern Europeans to the sun. High summer is busy and hot on the coast but the Atlantic breeze keeps it bearable. For lodging, base in Cascais for the first two nights, a smart, walkable resort town with great restaurants, then move up to a Silver Coast resort near Obidos for the final night so the last two rounds are on your doorstep. A hire car is essential for the coast roads and the run between the two areas, and Lisbon, Sintra and the medieval town of Obidos all reward an extra day on either end.
