How to Play the Best Golf in Stockholm

Stockholm hides serious tournament golf behind its archipelago postcard: Bro Hof Slott's 7,357 meter Stadium Course at around 200 euros, Jack Nicklaus parkland at Ullna, and June daylight that runs past 10pm. Here is how to put the week together.

The playbook, step by step

Step 1: build the trip around Bro Hof Slott

Forty minutes northwest of the city on the shore of Lake Malaren, Bro Hof Slott is the round that justifies the flight. The Stadium Course, a Robert Trent Jones Jr design opened in 2007, runs to a scarcely believable 7,357 meters from the black championship tees and staged the European Tour's Nordea Masters in its pomp. Nobody sane plays it from the tips; pick the tees two or three boxes forward and it becomes a magnificent, water laced examination rather than a death march. The same designer's Castle Course, opened in 2010, makes the second round if you stay out there a full day.

Step 2: book Ullna for the contrast

Ullna, about 30 minutes north of the center, is the other half of the argument: a manicured Jack Nicklaus design wrapped around Lake Ullna, all framed fairways and water on the closing stretch. It is private club polished but visitors are welcomed on both weekdays and weekends, and the green fee has hovered around 1,500 SEK, with 2025 visitors reporting roughly 220 euros including lunch in the clubhouse. Book ahead by email or the club site rather than turning up on spec.

Step 3: bring your handicap certificate

Sweden is a federation country and the paperwork matters. Bro Hof Slott requires a valid handicap certificate or card, and most established Stockholm clubs expect the same. A screenshot of your home federation app is normally accepted; without anything, you are relying on goodwill. Advance booking is essential at both marquee clubs, and Bro Hof asks prospective visitors to book through reception.

Step 4: aim for the white nights, pay less in the shoulders

The season runs roughly May through October. June is the showstopper: around the solstice, Stockholm daylight stretches past 10pm, which means a full corporate day can still end with 18 holes, and a committed pair can stack 36 without an early alarm. May and September trade a little warmth for emptier tee sheets, and Ullna in particular discounts when the corporate traffic thins in high summer.

Step 5: stay central, drive out

Both headline courses sit within 30 to 40 minutes of downtown, in opposite directions, so base yourself once. Three or four nights in Norrmalm or Ostermalm covers Bro Hof on the big day, Ullna the next, and leaves an afternoon for the archipelago boats. A hire car beats taxis for the golf days; the courses are not well served by transit.

The honest verdicts

Is Stockholm worth a dedicated golf trip?

For a long weekend, emphatically. Bro Hof Slott alone stands comparison with anything in continental Europe, and the city it hangs off is one of the best looking capitals on earth. For a full golf week, Sweden rewards spreading out: our Sweden destination guide and the best golf courses in Sweden make the case for adding the Skane links belt in the far south, where Ljunghusen holds the seaside end of the argument, and green fees in Sweden shows how gently the rest of the country prices against the Stockholm flagships.

The Baltic pairing nobody prices up

Stockholm pairs naturally across the water: an overnight ferry or one hour flight reaches Riga, where our Riga golf guide covers a Nicklaus Design course at a third of Stockholm prices, and the same midsummer theme extends through our Finland and Norway guides all the way to Lapland vs Iceland for summer golf. For the nights, our recommended Stockholm stays keep you between the water and the first tee.

Stockholm golf questions

How much does golf cost in Stockholm?

The two marquee rounds are the expensive ones: Bro Hof Slott's Stadium Course was listed at around 200 euros in recent seasons, and Ullna has charged around 1,500 SEK, with 2025 visitor reports near 220 euros including clubhouse lunch. Most other Stockholm clubs sit well below that. Fees are indicative; always confirm directly before booking.

What are the best golf courses in Stockholm?

Bro Hof Slott, northwest of the city on Lake Malaren, is the headline act: the Robert Trent Jones Jr Stadium Course opened in 2007, stretches to 7,357 meters from the championship tees and staged top European Tour events, with the same designer's Castle Course alongside from 2010. Ullna, a Jack Nicklaus design wrapped around Lake Ullna about 30 minutes north, is the polished parkland counterpart.

Do you need a handicap certificate to play in Sweden?

Yes, plan on it. Bro Hof Slott requires a valid handicap certificate or card, and most established Stockholm clubs expect documented handicaps from visiting players. Carry proof from your home club or federation app and you will not be turned away on paperwork.

When is the golf season in Stockholm?

Roughly May through October. The reward for coming in June is daylight: around the solstice Stockholm stays light past 10pm, so 36 hole days and after dinner nine holes are entirely realistic. May and September bring quieter tee sheets and softer rates.
