How to Play the Best Golf in Riga

The playbook, step by step

Step 1: split the trip between the two clubs that matter

Latvian golf concentrates around the capital, and two clubs carry the trip. Ozo Golf Club sits inside Riga itself, an 18 hole par 72 running 6,400 meters from the back tees, the round you can reach by taxi from an old town hotel. Jurmala Golf Club and Hotel at Pinki, on the road between Riga and the seaside resort of Jurmala, is the modern flagship: opened in 2018, the first and only Nicklaus Design course in the Baltic states, 18 championship holes across 75 hectares plus a nine hole par 3 Academy loop for the evening swing.

Step 2: book like a local, pay like one too

Both clubs publish their rates and take direct bookings. Ozo's 2026 season card reads 75 euros for 18 holes Monday to Thursday and 90 euros Friday to Sunday, with nine holes at 55 to 65 euros and an all day ticket at 105 to 120 euros. Jurmala charges 89 euros for 18 holes with 25 range balls included. Rental sets around the Latvian clubs typically run 10 to 15 euros, so flying without clubs is a defensible choice. Book a few days ahead in summer; this is not a destination of seven day tee sheets and ballots.

Step 3: aim for the white nights

The season runs roughly May through October, and the trump card is midsummer. Around the June solstice Riga's daylight stretches past 10pm, which means a full round after a day of meetings, or 36 holes without an early alarm. One caution: Mondays at Ozo can carry course maintenance, so a one round trip should book Tuesday to Sunday.

Step 4: stay in the old town, swim at Jurmala

The winning structure is three or four nights in Riga's art nouveau center with Ozo on arrival day, Jurmala's Nicklaus course the centerpiece day, and the resort town's white sand beach and wooden villas for the afternoon after. Everything sits within 30 to 40 minutes of everything else.

Step 5: temper the gear, not the expectations

Bring layers and rain protection even in July; Baltic weather changes by the hour. Standard golf dress is fine at both clubs, visitors are welcomed without ceremony, and green card courses exist for the beginner in the group.

Is Riga worth a dedicated golf trip?

As a pure golf destination, it is a long weekend rather than a week: two courses of real quality, not six. As a city break with golf attached, it is close to perfect, the old town is compact and gorgeous, dinner costs half of what Stockholm charges, and the Nicklaus course at Jurmala would hold its head up anywhere in northern Europe.
