Why golf in Indonesia
Indonesia pairs some of Asia's most photogenic golf with one of the world's great holiday islands, and Bali is the reason most golfers come. On the southwest coast, the Greg Norman course at Nirwana frames its famous par 3 against the Tanah Lot sea temple, on the Bukit Peninsula New Kuta runs along limestone cliffs above Dreamland and Balangan beaches, and high in the Bedugul mountains the Peter Thomson and Ronald Fream course at Handara sits inside an old volcanic crater. The golf is dramatic, the green fees are reasonable for the quality, and the off course life of beaches, spas and temples is in a class of its own.
Beyond Bali, Indonesia spreads its golf across a vast archipelago. Jakarta on Java holds the country's championship courses, led by Jack Nicklaus's Damai Indah BSD and the Robert Trent Jones Jr layouts that host the professional circuit, while the resort island of Bintan, a short ferry from Singapore, brings the Gary Player designed Ria Bintan within easy reach of the regional hub. For most visiting golfers the trip is a Bali golf and beach week, with the option to fold in Jakarta on business or Bintan on the way through Singapore.
The regions
Bali
The headline island: clifftop and ocean courses at Nirwana, New Kuta and Bali National, the highland crater course at Handara, and the beaches, spas and temples that make it a world class resort base.
Jakarta and Java
The country's championship golf, Jack Nicklaus's Damai Indah BSD, the Robert Trent Jones Jr courses and the 27 holes of Royale Jakarta, handy for a business or city trip.
Bintan
A resort island a short ferry from Singapore, with the Gary Player designed Ria Bintan and the Laguna courses, an easy add on for golfers routing through the regional hub.
The courses that matter
Nirwana Bali
The most famous course in Indonesia, a Greg Norman design on Bali's southwest coast whose signature par 3 plays across a cove to the Tanah Lot sea temple. The resort has been through redevelopment, so confirm the current playing status before you plan around it.
New Kuta Golf
A clifftop links style course on the Bukit Peninsula, set above the limestone cliffs of Dreamland and Balangan with huge ocean views, named a best new international course soon after it opened.
Bali National Golf Club
The reborn Nusa Dua course in the south of Bali, reopened in 2013 after a full redesign, a polished resort layout minutes from the Nusa Dua and Kuta hotels.
Handara Golf and Resort
A cool highland course set inside an old volcanic crater in the Bedugul mountains, long rated among the great courses of the world for its setting, a complete contrast to the coastal golf.
Damai Indah Golf, BSD
Jack Nicklaus's first project in Indonesia and a multiple award winner, the BSD course at Damai Indah is the benchmark championship round in the Jakarta area.
Damai Indah Golf, PIK
The sister course at Pantai Indah Kapuk on the north Jakarta coast, a Robert Trent Jones Jr layout that completes one of the capital's leading golf clubs.
Pondok Indah Golf Course
A prestigious, tournament tested course in South Jakarta near the business district, a Robert Trent Jones Jr design that blends natural beauty with a real test close to the city.
Royale Jakarta Golf Club
A premium 27 hole club about fifteen minutes from central Jakarta that has hosted the Indonesian Masters several times, a strong championship option for a city based golfer.
Ria Bintan Golf Club
The pick of Bintan's golf, a Gary Player design split between an ocean course along the South China Sea and a forest course inland, a short ferry from Singapore.
Laguna Bintan Golf Club
A resort course within the Laguna Bintan complex of beach hotels, a relaxed, scenic round that rounds out a golf and beach stay on the island.

When to go
| Season | Conditions | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| April or May to October | Dry season, warm and sunny, the firmest fairways | Prime golf season across Bali, Java and Bintan |
| November to March | Wet season, short heavy afternoon downpours, humid | Still playable on morning tee times, quieter and cheaper |
| Year round, Bedugul highlands | Cooler and greener at altitude than the coast | Handara plays well even in the wetter months |
It is tropical and humid all year, so play early, take plenty of water and expect a caddie on every round. The dry season delivers the most settled weather for a golf week.

Getting there and around
Bali's Ngurah Rai airport at Denpasar is the gateway for the island golf, with direct flights from across Asia and Australia and one stop connections from Europe and the Middle East, and the courses within an hour of the southern resort areas. Jakarta's Soekarno Hatta is the main international hub for Java and the championship courses around the capital. Bintan is reached by a short ferry from Singapore, which makes it an easy add on for golfers routing through the regional hub. Within each area a private driver is the simplest way to reach the courses, since traffic is heavy and the resorts arrange transfers and caddies as a matter of course.
Where to stay
In Bali, base in the southern resort areas of Nusa Dua, Seminyak or the Bukit Peninsula to keep the coastal courses close, with five star beach resorts and clifftop hotels for a luxury week, or head to the cool highlands at Bedugul for Handara. In Jakarta, a city or BSD area hotel pairs the golf with the capital. On Bintan, the Laguna and Nirwana resort strip puts you among the courses and the beaches. Book the resort hotels ahead for the dry season peak and the Australian school holidays, and let one planner match the base and the transfers to each leg.

Indonesia golf questions
When is the best time to play golf in Indonesia?
It is a year round destination, but the dry season from roughly April or May to October brings the most settled weather across Bali, Java and Bintan, with warm, sunny days and the firmest fairways. The wet season from November to March brings short, heavy afternoon downpours, so morning tee times are wise, and Handara in the Bali highlands stays cooler and greener all year.
Which region of Indonesia is best for a golf trip?
Bali is the headline, pairing dramatic clifftop and ocean courses with a world class resort island. Jakarta on Java holds the championship courses, Damai Indah BSD and the Robert Trent Jones Jr layouts, handy for a business trip. The resort island of Bintan, a short ferry from Singapore, adds the Gary Player designed Ria Bintan and easy regional access.
How much does a golf trip to Indonesia cost in 2026?
Indicative 2026 green fees run to around $100 to $220 at the marquee Bali and Bintan resort courses and a little less at many Jakarta clubs, with a caddie effectively mandatory and added on top. A Bali golf and beach week with a good resort and transfers typically lands between $2,000 and $4,500 per head. Always confirm directly before booking.
