Bali Golf Holidays

Clifftop ocean holes, a Greg Norman course beside a sea temple, warm hospitality and prices that flatter the wallet make Bali one of the most rewarding long haul golf trips in Asia. Here is who it suits, the courses to build around, a sample week and what it costs.

Who it suits

Bali is the trip for golfers who want their week to feel like a holiday first and a golf tour second. The courses are scenic and varied rather than punishing, from clifftop ocean layouts on the Bukit to a cool mountain caldera in the highlands, and a caddie walks every round with you. Couples, mixed groups and relaxed buddies trips all take to it, drawn as much by the beach clubs, the spas and the food as the golf.

It is also remarkable value. Green fees are a fraction of the equivalent in Europe or the United States, the standard of resorts is high, and a week of championship golf, fine hotels and private transfers costs less than many people expect. Add Ubud and the temples and it becomes a trip the whole party remembers.

Best time to book: aim for the dry season from May to September and reserve Nirwana a month or so ahead for a sunset tee time. The wetter months still play well with an early start and bring the lowest rates of the year.

Questions

When is the best time for a Bali golf holiday?

The dry season from May to September is ideal, with reliable sunshine and firm fairways. The wetter months from November to March still play well with a morning tee time, as the showers tend to come in the afternoon. Bali is warm and humid all year.

How many courses can I play in a week?

Three to five rounds is comfortable. The Bukit Peninsula courses sit close together in the south, while Nirwana on the west coast and Handara in the highlands are day trips, so a week still leaves room for the beach, Ubud and the temples.

Can you combine the golf with Ubud and the beaches?

Yes, and most visitors do. The southern courses are minutes from the beach clubs, Nirwana sits beside the Tanah Lot temple, and Handara pairs with the rice terraces and Ubud. We build the culture and the coast around the golf.
