Cabopino Golf
Juan Ligues Creus laid Cabopino out in 2001 on rolling ground above the dunes and marina at the eastern end of Marbella. A short par 71 of about 5,170 metres, it trades length for character: tight, tumbling fairways, sea glimpses from the high points and a premium on the shot you can actually control.

The verdict
Cabopino is the kind of course that surprises golfers who arrive expecting a flat resort layout. Juan Ligues Creus routed it across genuinely hilly ground above the Cabopino marina and the protected dunes that give the place its name, and the result is a compact, busy par 71 of about 5,170 metres where the ground is rarely level and the wrong club leaves an awkward stance every time. It opened in 2001 and has settled into one of the more characterful value rounds on the eastern Marbella coast.
This is not a course you overpower. The lines off the tee are tight, several holes climb or fall sharply, and the greens sit in pockets that reward a controlled approach over a long carry. For a buddies group or a couple wanting a fun, scenic morning between the bigger names, it is an easy yes, and its position beside the marina means lunch afterward is a short walk away. Pair it with a heavyweight like Rio Real or Los Naranjos for a varied two course day.

The holes worth the trip
Cabopino plays its short yardage cleverly. With three par 3s and only two par 5s, the meat of the round is a varied set of par 4s that swing left and right across the hillside, so the tee shot is a question of position long before it is a question of power. Take the right side of a sloping fairway and the green opens; miss it and the slope, the trees or a run off can leave a fiddly recovery.
The elevation is the defining feature. Several tees are perched high, giving you a clear view of the trouble and, on the seaward holes, glimpses of the Mediterranean and the Cabopino marina below. Greens are mostly of fair size but firm and quick when the coast dries out, and a confident touch from short range is worth more here than another 20 metres off the tee.
The short par 3s and the downhill drives are the photographs you will take home, but the scorecard is decided by patience: respect the slopes, leave the driver in the bag where the hole asks for it, and Cabopino is one of the most enjoyable, least intimidating rounds on the coast. It makes a relaxed counterpoint to the longer, sterner tests at nearby Guadalmina or San Roque.
