Who this trip suits

The Algarve is the easiest great golf trip in Europe, which is why buddies groups, couples and society trips keep coming back. The flight from the UK is under three hours, the courses sit close together along a sunny southern coast, and the standard of conditioning is high across the board. It works best for groups who want serious golf in the morning and a relaxed evening of seafood and a glass of vinho verde, rather than a hard charging resort scene. From October to May it is the most reliable winter sun in Europe, and the value, outside the very top courses, is excellent.

If your group has one bucket list round in it, make it Monte Rei. If you want variety over a week, the Golden Triangle around Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo gives you four or five championship courses within ten minutes of each other, with Vilamoura's tournament tracks a short drive west.

Best time to book

The Algarve season runs October to May, and the sweet spot is February to April for warm, settled weather and courses in peak condition. Book the marquee courses, especially Monte Rei, six to ten weeks ahead in high season, and earlier still for the February and Easter peaks. November and early December can be excellent value if you accept a slightly higher chance of a wet day.

Most groups play four to five rounds over seven nights, leaving a rest day. The courses cluster around Vilamoura and the Golden Triangle, so drives between them are typically fifteen to forty minutes.

What does it cost to play Monte Rei?

Monte Rei North is the premium round. Indicative 2026 green fees run from around €175 to €240 depending on season, with buggy and service included. Confirm directly before booking.

Can you arrange hotel, transfers and tee times together?

Yes. Submit a brief and one concierge costs the whole trip to the head, then routes it to a vetted operator. You book once and just play.
