Green Fees in the Eastern Algarve: What Golf Costs in 2026

East of Faro the Algarve changes character and so does the bill. One course, Monte Rei, charges 178 to 220 euro and is worth every cent; nearly everything else in the east plays for 100 euro or less. Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima share an estate by the Ria Formosa lagoon, Benamor starts at 61 euro, and Tavira anchors the lot. Here is the whole fee picture, verified June 2026.

The short answer

Budget the week around one number: Monte Rei. The Jack Nicklaus Signature North course at Vila Nova de Cacela lists between 178 and 220 euro for the season running to 31 October 2026, shared buggy and practice hour included, which makes it the priciest tee time in Portugal and still one of the easiest to justify, because it is routinely ranked the country's best course. The rest of the east is a different market. Monte Rei's neighbours Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima list from around 100 euro on one 36 hole estate beside the Ria Formosa, Castro Marim's terraced resort course starts near 104, and Benamor at Tavira publishes 2026 rates from 61 euro. Play Monte Rei once, fill the rest of the week in the east's value tier, and the average fee lands far below a Quinta do Lago itinerary.

What you are paying for

Monte Rei, the headline

There is no debate about where the money goes in the east. Monte Rei's North course, the only Jack Nicklaus Signature design in Portugal, opened in 2007 in the foothills behind Vila Nova de Cacela and has sat at or near the top of the national rankings ever since. The fee buys manicured isolation: each hole walled off by umbrella pine and wild hill, a shared buggy, an hour on the practice grounds and service pitched at the level of the member clubs of the American South. Book weeks ahead for spring and autumn dates, and read our eastern Algarve playing guide before you commit the diary. How it compares with the central Algarve's best is the subject of our Monte Rei versus San Lorenzo head to head.

The Ria estate and Castro Marim

Ten minutes from Monte Rei, Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima are the smart money: two Rocky Roquemore eighteens on one estate between the sea and the hills, Ria with its closing stretch against the Ria Formosa lagoon and its salt flats, Cima the longer, leafier inland test. Both list from around 100 euro, and Ria's published afternoon rate from about 80 euro from 14:30 in several months is the best trick in the east. Castro Marim, terraced above the Guadiana river where Portugal meets Spain, starts near 104 euro and adds border country views from its upper holes.

Benamor and the value tier

Benamor, on the hills behind Tavira, publishes the clearest rate card in the region: 61 euro in low season, 79 in mid season and 86 in its winter and summer promotion windows for 2026. It is a proper par 71 with sea glimpses, not a filler round. Colina Verde's nine at Moncarapacho costs less again and makes a fine first afternoon leg stretcher. This tier is why the east works for groups: the trophy round is dear, but the week is not.

How to time it, and how to save

The east runs the same calendar as the rest of the Algarve, with spring and autumn the premium windows and the bonus that this is the driest, sunniest corner of the coast in winter. Monte Rei's rate card moves less than the resort strip's dynamic engines, so the savings live elsewhere: Quinta da Ria's afternoon rate, Benamor's low season band from 1 October, and multi round packages across the Ria estate. Base in Tavira, fly to Faro forty minutes away, and the logistics cost nothing in drive time. The wider context lives in our eastern Algarve destination guide, the Algarve hub, the all Algarve fee guide and its western Algarve counterpart, and the best courses in the Algarve ranking.

Eastern Algarve green fee questions

How much is a green fee at Monte Rei in 2026?

Monte Rei's North course lists between 178 and 220 euro per person for the season running 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2026, with a shared buggy and an hour on the practice facilities included. It is the most expensive round in the Algarve and books out weeks ahead in spring and autumn. The figure is indicative third party pricing; always confirm directly before booking.

What do Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima cost to play?

The two Rocky Roquemore courses on the one estate at Vila Nova de Cacela list from around 100 euro in 2026, with afternoon rates from about 80 euro on Quinta da Ria from 14:30 in several months of the year. They are the natural pairing with a Monte Rei round and a fraction of its fee.

Where is the cheapest golf in the eastern Algarve?

Benamor at Tavira is the value play, with 2026 rates published from 61 euro in low season, 79 in mid season and 86 euro across the winter and summer promotion windows. The 9 hole Colina Verde at Moncarapacho costs less still, and twilight times across the east drop most fees further. Always confirm directly before booking.

Is the eastern Algarve cheaper than Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago?

Outside Monte Rei, yes, and usually by a wide margin. Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima, Castro Marim and Benamor all price beneath the headline rates of the central Algarve's Golden Triangle, the courses are quieter, and Tavira makes a calmer base than the resort strip. Monte Rei itself is the exception: it is priced above almost everything in the country and earns it.
