Why golf in Singapore

Singapore plays golf the way it does everything else: to an exceptional standard, on a small footprint, with no detail left to chance. Land is the scarcest commodity on the island, so the courses that survive are private, immaculately maintained and woven between the city, the airport and the central reservoirs. The crown is Sentosa Golf Club, whose Serapong course hosts the Singapore Open and the women's tour and was named the World's Best Golf Course at the 2023 World Golf Awards, with the downtown skyline rising across the water from several holes.

For a travelling golfer, Singapore is less a dedicated golf destination than a superb golf stop on a wider Asian trip. It pairs a round or two on world class turf with one of the great cities for food, hotels and shopping, and a short ferry ride reaches the Indonesian islands of Bintan and Batam, where the golf is plentiful and far cheaper. It suits the couple or the business traveller adding golf to a city stay, the buddies group routing through on the way to Thailand or Australia, and anyone who wants a genuinely cosmopolitan base. Most courses are member clubs, so the key is arranging access before you arrive.

The areas

Sentosa and the South

The resort island just off downtown, home to Sentosa Golf Club and its two courses with skyline and sea views, the marquee golf in the country and a short drive from the city's best hotels.

The East and Changi

The cluster of clubs near Changi airport, led by Tanah Merah and Laguna National, the easiest golf to combine with arrival or departure and a stay on the East Coast.

Beyond the island

The central reservoir courses at the Singapore Island Country Club, plus the cheaper, plentiful golf of Bintan and Batam in Indonesia, a short ferry from the city for a longer trip.

Getting there and around

Singapore is one of the best connected cities on earth, with Changi airport regularly rated the world's finest and direct flights from across Europe, the Americas and Asia. The island is tiny and the public transport excellent, but for golf a taxi or a private driver is the simple way to reach the clubs, none of which are more than thirty to forty minutes from the city center. Sentosa sits just off downtown, the eastern clubs are minutes from Changi, and a short ferry from the HarbourFront terminal reaches Bintan and Batam in Indonesia for those adding cheaper island golf to a longer trip.

Where to stay

Singapore is a city break first, so stay where the city is best. Marina Bay and the downtown core put you minutes from Sentosa and the Marina Bay course, with the island's landmark hotels and the best of its dining and rooftop bars. Sentosa itself has resort hotels for those who want to wake up beside the golf, while a stay near the East Coast keeps the Changi clubs and the airport close for a short, golf focused visit. Whatever the base, the city's restaurants and hawker centers are as much a reason to come as the golf.

Can visitors play golf in Singapore?

Most of the best courses are private member clubs that welcome visitors on weekdays, often through a hotel or an operator and sometimes with a handicap requirement, while weekends are member only. Sentosa and Tanah Merah take visitor bookings, the Marina Bay course is fully public, and a concierge can arrange the introductions the private clubs require. Always confirm access before you travel.

Indicative 2026 visitor green fees run from around SGD 250 to SGD 500 on weekdays at the leading private clubs, with the public Marina Bay course much cheaper.
