The verdict
The Classic was created by the cousins Andy and Perry Dye of Dye Designs and opened in 1993, then given a full redesign by Andy Dye in 2010 and renovated again in 2017. It is unmistakably a Dye course, rolling over terrain unlike anything else in flat Singapore, with railroad ties, vast bunkering and water threatening at every turn. Its nickname, The Beast, is well earned.
At 7,101 yards from the tips it is a genuine, brawny par 72, host of the Singapore Classic on the DP World Tour and a favorite of low handicappers who want to be tested. As part of a resort with the Dusit Thani Laguna hotel on site, it is also one of the more accessible top courses in Singapore for a visiting golfer, the companion to the club's Masters Course, and an easy round to reach from Changi Airport.

The holes worth the trip
The Classic throws everything at the player. More than 250 bunkers pepper the property, water is in play across the round, and the Dye trademarks of rolling fairways, sharp angles and intimidating tee shots demand both nerve and precision. There is a par 3 of around 305 yards, Asia's smallest green on the 7th and its largest on the 13th, the kind of extremes that define the experience.
From the championship markers it is a stern, full length examination that has tested tour professionals, but multiple tees keep it manageable for the resort golfer who picks the right ones. The greens are large and quick, and reading the Dye contours is a challenge in itself, so a caddie is a real asset on a first visit.
The hilly, sculpted terrain is the great surprise of the course, unparalleled in Singapore golf, and the conditioning is to a high standard year round. The Beast rewards the bold, well struck shot and punishes the timid or the wayward, a true big occasion layout to build a trip around.
