Golf in Oman

A Greg Norman links between the Indian Ocean and the mountains, a capital of mosques, forts and souqs, and a far quieter pace than the Gulf next door. Oman is the Arabian golf trip for golfers who want the country, not just the courses.

Why golf here

Arabian golf at a gentler pace

Oman offers the warm winter golf of the Gulf without the glass and traffic of its bigger neighbours. The headline course, Al Mouj in Muscat, is a Greg Norman design and the first links style layout in the country, threaded between the Indian Ocean and the jagged Al Hajar mountains. It is genuinely good, and it has been named the best course in Oman more than once.

The rest of the golf clusters around the capital, so a trip is easy to plan: three good courses within reach of the city, a seaside nine down the coast, and a country of dramatic wadis, old forts and empty desert between rounds. It suits couples and groups who want their golf wrapped in a real destination rather than a resort bubble, and it pairs neatly with a few days in Dubai.

The courses that matter

The Omani courses to build around

The leading golf sits in and around Muscat, led by a Greg Norman links by the sea. Three full courses near the capital and a seaside nine down the coast make a comfortable four round week.

01

Al Mouj Golf

Muscat · Greg Norman · par 72, 7,342 yds

The first links style course in Oman and the clear number one, a Greg Norman design running between the Indian Ocean and the Al Hajar mountains at the Muscat marina. Named the best course in the country by the World Golf Awards and the centrepiece of any trip.

02

Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club

Muscat · Paul Thomas, 2009

Oman's first full grass course, a Paul Thomas design set in a natural bowl close to the airport and the city. A fair, enjoyable round and the easy second course of a Muscat based trip, also known these days as La Vie.

03

Ghala Golf Club

Muscat · among the Al Hajar mountains

A well established Muscat club whose fairways run up to the foot of the Al Hajar range, with the mountains framing nearly every hole. A characterful, friendly round and a useful third course in the capital.

04

Jebel Sifah Golf

Jebel Sifah · Peter Harradine · seaside nine

A scenic seaside nine by Peter Harradine at the Jebel Sifah marina resort, about an hour down the coast from Muscat. Wide fairways, gentle greens and sea views, an easy add on for a coastal night away from the city.

When to go and costs

Indicative green fees and the season

Oman plays from October to April, with November to March the prime window when the heat has eased and the skies are clear. Summer is too hot for comfortable golf, which makes Oman a classic winter sun trip. Al Mouj commands the top fee and books up over the cooler peak, so secure it first and build the rest of the week around it.

Indicative 2026 high season visitor green fees in US dollars, third party sources. Al Mouj is also quoted around OMR 50 to 60. Always confirm directly before booking.

A sample trip

Five nights, Muscat and the coast

A Muscat based week that plays the three city courses and the seaside nine, with the wadis, forts and desert of Oman filling the days and evenings between rounds.

Day 1

Arrive in Muscat

Fly into Muscat and settle into a beach or marina hotel, with a first evening at the Grand Mosque and the Mutrah souq.

Day 2

Al Mouj Golf

The marquee round on the Greg Norman links by the sea, then an afternoon on the beach or by the marina to ease in.

Day 3

Ghala or Muscat Hills

A second city round among the mountains, followed by a wadi drive or a fort visit inland from the capital.

Day 4

Jebel Sifah and the coast

Drive down the coast for the seaside nine and a night by the marina, with snorkelling or a dolphin cruise to fill the day.

Day 5

A final round and home

A return round at Al Mouj or Muscat Hills before the drive back to the airport for an evening flight, or hop on to Dubai.

Getting there and around

Base in Muscat and play out

Muscat has good long haul and regional connections, and the three leading courses sit within easy reach of the city and its hotels, so a car or a driver makes the golf simple. Jebel Sifah is about an hour down the coast and rewards an overnight by the marina. Oman also pairs naturally with Dubai, a short hop away, for a two country golf trip.

Plan for the cool season from November to March and book Al Mouj first, as the marquee course fills over the peak. Leave time between rounds for the wadis, forts and desert nights that make Oman more than a golf destination, and dress respectfully off the course in this more traditional Gulf state.

Good to know

Golf in Oman: common questions

What are the best golf courses in Oman?

Al Mouj Golf in Muscat, a Greg Norman design and the first links style course in the country, is widely rated the best in Oman. Muscat Hills, the country's first grass course, and Ghala Golf Club beneath the Al Hajar mountains complete the Muscat trio, with a seaside nine at Jebel Sifah down the coast.

When is the best time to play golf in Oman?

October to April is the season, when the heat eases and the days are warm and clear. November to March is the prime window. Summer is fiercely hot and best avoided for golf, which makes Oman a classic winter sun escape.

How much are green fees in Oman in 2026?

Indicative 2026 green fees run from about 40 to 60 dollars for the nine at Jebel Sifah up to roughly 130 to 160 dollars at Al Mouj, the marquee course. Muscat Hills and Ghala sit in between. Always confirm directly before booking.

How do you get to the golf in Oman?

Fly into Muscat, which has good long haul and regional connections, and where the three leading courses sit within easy reach of the city and its hotels. A hire car or driver is the simplest way to reach Jebel Sifah down the coast and to explore the wadis and forts between rounds.

Is Oman good for a golf and sightseeing trip?

Very much so. Oman pairs its golf with dramatic mountains, wadis, old forts and a far calmer pace than its Gulf neighbours, so a few rounds in Muscat sit easily alongside desert nights, snorkelling and the souqs. It suits couples and groups who want more than golf alone.
