Why golf in Mauritius
Mauritius packs more championship golf into a small tropical island than anywhere else in the Indian Ocean. Within an hour of each other you can play an island course reached only by boat, a links inspired Ernie Els layout along a turquoise lagoon and a mountain and ocean course in the dramatic south west, all wrapped inside some of the finest resort hotels on earth. The turf is immaculate, the caddies are sharp and the setting, between coral reef and green mountains, turns even a quiet midweek round into something memorable.
This is the long haul golf holiday at its most polished. The flight from Europe is overnight and the trip rewards a week or more, pairing two or three marquee courses with the beach, the spa and the table that make a Mauritian resort holiday. It suits couples and families as much as golfers, since many hotels include golf for guests and the non players want for nothing, and it is the natural choice when the brief is warm sea, total comfort and golf that genuinely tests.
The regions
The East Coast
The marquee cluster: Ile aux Cerfs offshore, Anahita on the mainland opposite and the two courses at Constance Belle Mare Plage, served by Le Touessrok, Four Seasons and the Constance resorts.
The South West
The most dramatic scenery on the island, with Heritage Le Chateau and La Reserve in the Bel Ombre estate and Paradis beneath the iconic Le Morne mountain on its own peninsula.
The North and West
Mont Choisy near the lively beach town of Grand Baie in the north, and Tamarina on a vast estate on the west coast, the options for those basing away from the east.
The courses that matter
Ile aux Cerfs
The signature course of Mauritius, a par 72 spread across its own island off the east coast and reached only by a short boat shuttle, with water, rock and forest in play and views at every turn.
Anahita
An Ernie Els design built to USGA standard along the east coast lagoon, with six oceanfront holes, old dry stone walls and a links inspired feel, celebrated for its conditioning and service.
Heritage, Le Chateau
A par 72 championship course in the Bel Ombre estate, rated the best in the Indian Ocean for nine straight years through 2023, rolling between mountain and sea on the wild south coast.
Heritage, La Reserve
The second course at Heritage, which makes Bel Ombre the only 45 hole golf destination in the Indian Ocean, a shorter, more playable counterpart to Le Chateau.
Constance Belle Mare Plage, The Legend
A mature parkland course cut through tropical forest and deer park behind one of the island's best beaches, the elder of the two Constance courses on the east coast.
Constance Belle Mare Plage, The Links
The more open, links inspired second course at Belle Mare Plage, a fine companion round and a regular host of professional events on the island.
Paradis
A par 72 on its own peninsula directly beneath the Le Morne mountain, a UNESCO landmark, with the lagoon on one side and the cliffs on the other, pure tropical drama.
Mont Choisy Le Golf
A modern par 72 inland of the busy beach town of Grand Baie in the north, a generous, well conditioned course and the easiest option for a northern base.

Getting there and around
Mauritius is served by a single international airport, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam in the south east of the island, with overnight flights from Europe of around twelve hours and good connections from the Gulf, South Africa and Asia. The airport sits closest to the south west and east coast resorts, a transfer of thirty to sixty minutes to most golf hotels. Distances on the island are short but the roads are slow, so most golfers rely on resort transfers and a driver for the marquee rounds rather than self driving.
Where to stay
Let the golf choose the coast. On the east, Shangri-La Le Touessrok includes Ile aux Cerfs golf for guests, the Four Seasons sits on the Anahita estate and the Constance hotels own Belle Mare Plage. In the south west, the Heritage resorts at Bel Ombre and the Paradis and Dinarobin hotels beneath Le Morne put the drama on your doorstep. In the north, the Grand Baie hotels pair Mont Choisy with the island's liveliest town. One planner can match the resort to your courses and your dates.
