Golf in Bangkok and Pattaya
Tournament golf, warm winters and famous value, two hours apart on the same trip. Around Bangkok lie the courses where Tiger Woods made his name in Asia; down the coast at Pattaya sits Siam Country Club and the densest cluster of resort golf in the country. The courses that matter, the regions, the seasons and how to plan it.

Why golf in Bangkok and Pattaya
Thailand has long been the easiest great golf trip in Asia, and the stretch from Bangkok down to Pattaya is its heartland. The conditioning is superb, the courses are designed for the heat with wide fairways and big greens, and the famous Thai caddies, walking with you all day, turn a round into something closer to hospitality. Add hotels and food that punch far above the price, and you have a destination that suits a serious golf group and a softer half of the party in equal measure.
The two hubs play to different strengths and sit close enough to combine. Bangkok puts you near the championship courses out in Pathum Thani and Nakhon Pathom, among them the two layouts where Tiger Woods announced himself in Asia, with the city's rooftop bars and street food a taxi away. Pattaya, around two hours down the coast, trades the city for a beach resort and the country's thickest concentration of golf, anchored by Siam Country Club. Many trips split the week between the two, with a driver moving the group and the clubs.
The regions
Bangkok and the north
The championship belt in Pathum Thani and Nakhon Pathom, home to Alpine, Thai Country Club, Nikanti and Riverdale, an easy drive from the city's hotels and nightlife.
Pattaya and Chonburi
The beach resort coast around two hours from Bangkok, with Siam Country Club, Laem Chabang and Burapha giving the country's densest run of resort golf and a buzzing town after dark.
Rayong and the eastern seaboard
The quieter stretch beyond Pattaya, where courses such as St Andrews 2000 and Eastern Star spread the golf further down the Gulf coast for a longer or calmer trip.
The courses that matter
Siam Country Club, Old Course
The country's first private course, rebuilt to championship standard and the long running host of the Honda LPGA Thailand, a par 72 of seashore paspalum and clever bunkering that leads most national rankings.
Siam Country Club, Plantation
A bold 27 hole course laid out across a former pineapple plantation, with real elevation change, wide fairways and rugged, sweeping bunkers, a favourite of visiting groups and a sister to the Old Course.
Alpine Golf Club
A long, manicured par 72 near Bangkok that hosted the 2000 Johnnie Walker Classic, won by Tiger Woods, still rated among the finest and most demanding tests in the capital region.
Thai Country Club
The immaculate course where Tiger Woods won the 1997 Asian Honda Classic by ten shots, an exclusive, beautifully kept layout that remains one of the marquee rounds near the city.
Nikanti Golf Club
One of the most inventive courses in Thailand, routed as three loops of six holes rather than two nines, with an all inclusive green fee that bundles food and drink, a relaxed and original day out.
Laem Chabang International
A 27 hole Jack Nicklaus design in the hills above the coast, with three contrasting nines, dramatic carries and one of the best conditioned layouts on the Pattaya circuit.
Siam Country Club, Waterside
The flattest and most water focused of the Siam courses, threading reservoirs and lakes for a different kind of test, and the easiest walking of the trio for a relaxed round.
Burapha Golf Club
A large, popular 36 hole complex outside Pattaya with four contrasting nines, generous and good value, an easy choice to fill out a Pattaya golf week without breaking the budget.

When to go
| Season | Conditions | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| November to February | Cool, dry and comfortable, the best conditioning | Peak season, the ideal window, book the marquee courses ahead |
| March to May | Hot and humid, best to play early in the day | Shoulder season, fine for early tee times and lower rates |
| June to October | Rainy season, warm with afternoon downpours | Greenest courses, quietest tee sheets and the lowest prices of the year |
Even in the rainy season the showers tend to come in short afternoon bursts, so a morning round usually beats the weather. The cool, dry months from November to February are the prime time to travel.

Getting there and around
Bangkok is the gateway, with two international airports and direct flights from across the world. The championship courses sit thirty to sixty minutes out of the city in Pathum Thani and Nakhon Pathom, and the run down to Pattaya takes roughly two hours by road on the motorway. The smart way to travel is with a driver and a van for the group and the clubs, since taxis and traffic make self driving a chore, and a local operator can pair the right tee times with the transfers. Most trips base a few nights in Bangkok, then move down to Pattaya for the coastal golf.
Where to stay
In Bangkok, a riverside or city centre hotel keeps you close to the rooftop bars and restaurants while the driver handles the runs out to the courses. At Pattaya, base yourself on the quieter Jomtien or Wong Amat ends of the beach, or stay on site at one of the golf resorts to wake up on the course. Siam Country Club, Laem Chabang and the larger complexes all sit within easy reach of the resort hotels. Book the cool season well ahead, and let one planner line up the hotels, the transfers and the tee times as one.
