The Best Golf Courses in Northern Cyprus

Let us be straight with you, because most pages on this subject are not: northern Cyprus has one championship golf course and one historic nine holer, and that is the entire list. Korineum, in the olive groves between the Kyrenia mountains and the sea, is good enough to anchor a quiet week in one of the Mediterranean's least crowded corners, and the old Cyprus Mining Corporation course at Cengiz Topel is a genuine curiosity. Here is the honest ranking, what each round is worth, and how the golf compares with the resort courses in the south of the island.

How we chose

There was no choosing to do, and we think that is worth saying plainly. This list was researched and written by the GolfForKings editorial desk in June 2026, and our rule for it was simple: a course earns an entry only if it really exists, really takes golfers, and we can verify its basic facts from the club and independent sources. Northern Cyprus produces exactly two such places. Several large resort and casino developments in the north have announced golf over the years; until grass is grown and tee sheets are open, none of them belongs on a ranking, and we will add them when they do.

What we did weigh is honest expectation setting. Korineum is ranked first because it is a proper 18 hole championship course with a practice academy and a small resort around it; CMC is ranked second because it is nine holes of living industrial history rather than a destination round. Green fees in the north have generally been modest by Mediterranean standards, but published rates change season to season and the club was resetting its prices at the time of our review, so we quote none here: always confirm directly before booking. The golf season is effectively year round, at its best from October to May, with July and August fierce.

Korineum Golf & Beach Resort

David Hemstock, opened 2007 · par 72, 6,232 meters · Esentepe, near Kyrenia · open to visitors

The only 18 hole course in northern Cyprus, and the reason a golfer comes at all. David Hemstock designed the layout, with Peter Harradine consulting on the build, and it opened in April 2007 across 65 hectares of old olive and carob groves near Esentepe, east of Kyrenia, the first championship length course in the north. The par 72 runs to 6,232 meters, climbing and falling between the Kyrenia range on one side and the Mediterranean on the other, and the driving range, academy, pool and small hotel make it a resort in miniature rather than a lone course. Our verdict: a relaxed, scenic round on uncrowded tee sheets that carries an entire destination on its shoulders, and carries it well. Rates are seasonal and were being reset for the new season at our review, so confirm current green fees with the club.

CMC Golf Club

9 holes, 18 tees · par 70, 5,233 yards · Cengiz Topel, near Yesilyurt · small members club

The other golf in the north is a piece of industrial history. The Cyprus Mining Corporation established its settlement here in 1926 to work the copper deposits in the nearby hills, and golf for its expatriate staff came with it; by the club's own account the first open golf tournament in Cyprus was played on this ground, and after 1974 former corporation hands kept the course alive. Today it plays as nine holes with 18 separate tees, a par 70 of 5,233 yards over the two loops, in the Cengiz Topel area near Yesilyurt in the west of the north. Our verdict: nobody routes a trip around it, but as a half day of golfing archaeology in friendly company it absolutely earns its place. A small club rather than a resort; confirm visitor arrangements and fees with the club before traveling.

Access: contact the club ahead of a visit. Ask our concierge.

Designers, opening dates, pars and yardages verified June 2026 from club and independent golf directory sources. Green fees in northern Cyprus are seasonal and were unpublished for the coming season at our review; always confirm rates and visitor access directly with the clubs before booking.

How the south of the island compares

Candidly: if golf is the engine of your trip, the south wins on volume and polish. The Republic of Cyprus side has four established championship venues within easy reach of Paphos, led by Aphrodite Hills, the island's flagship resort course across a dramatic ravine, with the modern links style Elea Estate, the hilltop Minthis and the older Secret Valley layout near Kouklia filling out a genuine four round week. We rank all of them in our guide to the best golf courses in Cyprus, and the wider island picture lives in our Cyprus destination guide.

What the north offers instead is the older, quieter Cyprus: the harbor at Kyrenia, the castles of the mountain ridge, long empty beaches on the Karpaz peninsula, prices a tier below the south, and a course at Korineum where a morning tee time rarely needs fighting for. The strongest play for a golfer is the combination. Base a few nights around Kyrenia for Korineum and the sights, cross the island for Paphos and the championship belt, and you have played the whole of Cyprus in one trip; the crossing itself, covered below, is routine. Our full guide to playing golf in northern Cyprus handles the detail.

Getting there, and the crossing

A short practical note on the politics, because it shapes the logistics. The north of the island has been administered separately since 1974 and is recognized as a state only by Turkey; for a traveler the consequences are the flight routings and a passport check, not drama. All scheduled flights into Ercan, the airport of the north, route via Turkey, on carriers including Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, AJet and SunExpress, which suits anyone connecting through Istanbul, perhaps after rounds on the Belek and Antalya courses covered in our Turkey guide. Most European golfers instead fly direct to Larnaca or Paphos in the south and drive across; Kyrenia is roughly an hour and a half from Larnaca through the Nicosia area crossings such as Metehan. Carry your passport, and check your car hire terms, since vehicles rented in the south usually need additional insurance, sold at the crossing, to be driven north, and some rental firms do not permit it at all.

Plan a northern Cyprus golf trip

Tell us roughly when and who is traveling. One concierge books Korineum and the right base in Kyrenia, builds the crossing into a north and south itinerary with Aphrodite Hills and the Paphos courses if you want the full island, and prices it all honestly. We reply within one working day, with no obligation.

Building the trip

Korineum rewards a slow week more than a tight schedule: a few rounds on uncrowded mornings, the academy for whoever in the party is starting out, Kyrenia harbor and the mountain castles in the afternoons, and a day's detour to CMC for the history. October to May is the season; spring carries wildflowers across the north and midsummer is for the beach club rather than 18 holes. Golfers who want a fuller card should split the trip across the island, pairing this list with the best courses in Cyprus and our Cyprus golf holidays packages, with our Cyprus destination guide as the groundwork. When you are ready, plan my trip puts the whole thing in one brief.
