How we ranked them

From Cancun's hotel zone south through Playa del Carmen and Akumal, the Riviera Maya has assembled one of the densest collections of resort golf in the Americas, much of it the work of Greg Norman, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones II and the Dye family. The signature is the setting, fairways carved through tropical jungle and mangrove, water hazards that are natural cenotes, and the warm Caribbean never far away. We weight the quality of the holes, the condition and the experience, and most of the leading courses sit within an hour of Cancun airport, which makes a multi course trip easy. The classic Pok Ta Pok course in the hotel zone is a fun, scenic extra alongside the headline resort layouts.

The ranking

1

El Camaleon, Mayakoba

Greg Norman, 2005 · Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya

The best course on the coast and the most famous in Mexico, a Greg Norman design at the Mayakoba resort that in 2007 became the first course outside the United States and Canada to host a PGA Tour event. Routed through jungle, mangrove, canals and oceanfront, with a cenote in the middle of one fairway, it is a genuine tour test in a stunning setting. The obvious centrepiece of a Riviera Maya golf trip.

2

Playa Mujeres Golf Club

Greg Norman · north of Cancun

3

El Tinto, Cancun Country Club

Nick Price · near Cancun

Big and strategic, with cenotes and native bush framing the holes, it is regularly rated among the best on the coast and a strong choice for the lower handicap visitor.

Indicative 2026 green fee around $180 to $260. Always confirm directly before booking.
4

PGA Riviera Maya

Robert Trent Jones II · Akumal, Riviera Maya

5

Riviera Cancun Golf Club
