How we ranked them
Lisbon's coastal corridor has quietly become one of the great golf gatherings in Europe, a run of courses stretching from Cascais and Sintra in the west, up the Silver Coast around Obidos, and south across the Tagus to the dune country of Troia and Comporta. The variety is the appeal, true seaside links, pine framed parkland and clifftop holes above the Atlantic, all within easy reach of a world class city. We weight the quality and variety of the holes, the setting and the condition, and the top of this list now ranks with anything in Portugal. For most travellers the natural base is the Cascais coast, with day trips north and south.
The ranking
Oitavos Dunes
Long rated the best course on the Lisbon coast and one of the finest in Portugal, an Arthur Hills design that runs through umbrella pine and rolling dune above the Atlantic near Cascais. A par 71 of genuine links character, exposed to the breeze and beautifully natural, it has featured in the European top one hundreds for years. The obvious centrepiece of a Lisbon golf trip.
Indicative 2026 green fee around €120 to €160. Always confirm directly before booking.Terras da Comporta, Dunas Course
The newest force in Portuguese golf, a David McLay Kidd design among the dunes and umbrella pines of Comporta, an hour south of Lisbon, that has vaulted to the number one ranking in the country. Big, natural and firm, in the mould of the architect's work at Bandon Dunes, it is a destination course in its own right and the headline reason the Lisbon coast now rivals the Algarve.
Indicative 2026 green fee around €150 to €200. Always confirm directly before booking.Penha Longa, Atlantic Course
A Robert Trent Jones Snr design set in the wooded hills of the Sintra natural park, the Atlantic course is a par 72 that has hosted the Portuguese Open and remains one of the most complete tests on the coast. Dramatic elevation, mountain and ocean views and a strong set of holes make it the pick of the Sintra golf, paired with one of the region's best resort hotels.
Indicative 2026 green fee around €110 to €150. Always confirm directly before booking.Praia D'El Rey
A Cabell Robinson design on the Silver Coast around an hour north of Lisbon, regularly ranked among the top three courses in Portugal. The front nine moves through pine and the back swings out to clifftop and dune above the Atlantic, a memorable, varied round with a fine resort attached. The anchor of any Silver Coast itinerary.
Indicative 2026 green fee around €90 to €130. Always confirm directly before booking.West Cliffs
A Cynthia Dye design that opened in 2017 on the dunes of the Silver Coast beside Praia D'El Rey, quickly rated one of the best modern courses in Europe. Routed through wild, rolling dune land high above the ocean, it is exposed, dramatic and full of memorable holes. With its neighbour it makes the Silver Coast the strongest two course pairing near Lisbon.
Indicative 2026 green fee around €90 to €130. Always confirm directly before booking.Troia Golf
A classic Robert Trent Jones Snr links from 1980, laid out among the dunes of the Troia peninsula across the bay from Setubal, south of Lisbon. Tight, firm and demanding, with the sea and the Arrabida hills as a backdrop, it is one of the most natural and underrated courses in the country. Reach it by the short ferry from Setubal.
Indicative 2026 green fee around €70 to €100. Always confirm directly before booking.Quinta da Marinha
Another Robert Trent Jones Snr design on the Cascais coast, a par 71 winding through umbrella pine with several holes opening to the Atlantic and the Sintra hills. Less severe than Oitavos next door, it is an enjoyable, scenic resort round with a good hotel attached, and an easy second course on a Cascais based trip.
Indicative 2026 green fee around €80 to €110. Always confirm directly before booking.Aroeira, Pinhal Course
Sometimes called Lisbon's Wentworth, the Pinhal course at Aroeira is a Frank Pennink design from 1972 set in a dense umbrella pine forest on the Setubal peninsula just south of the city. Flat, tree lined and strategic, with narrow avenues demanding accuracy off the tee, it is the most convenient mature parkland near Lisbon and a fine, traditional contrast to the coastal links.
