Yas Links vs Saadiyat Beach: Which Golf Trip Wins?

Twenty five minutes apart across Abu Dhabi's islands sit two very different answers to desert golf: Kyle Phillips's manufactured links along the mangroves at Yas and Gary Player's beachfront resort course on Saadiyat. Our verdict up front, the head to head table, and who should pick which.

The verdict

For the golfer, Yas Links wins, and it is not especially close. Kyle Phillips, the architect of Kingsbarns, shaped a true links experience out of reclaimed shoreline in 2010: a par 72 of about 7,450 yards from the tips, rumpled fairways, run off greens and a long run of holes turned toward the mangroves of Khor Laffan. It is widely rated the best course in the Gulf, and it has hosted the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship since the tournament moved across from Abu Dhabi Golf Club in 2022.

Saadiyat Beach wins the holiday. Gary Player's 2010 design is the region's only true beachfront course, a par 72 stretching to about 7,806 yards through dunes alongside white sand, with gazelles wandering the property and some of Abu Dhabi's best resort hotels within five minutes. It is friendlier off the resort tees, cheaper most of the year, and far better suited to a trip where the golf shares billing with the beach. Most groups staying a week play both; they are about 25 minutes apart by car.

Who should pick which

Pick Yas Links if the golf is the trip. It is the one course in the Emirates that serious golfers fly in for on its own merits, and the supporting cast on Yas Island, hotels, the F1 circuit, theme parks and late dining, keeps a buddies group busy after the round. Pair it with Abu Dhabi Golf Club for a heavyweight 36 hole weekend, and read our Dubai vs Abu Dhabi comparison if you are still choosing your base emirate.

Pick Saadiyat Beach if half the party does not carry a handicap. The Louvre Abu Dhabi is ten minutes away, the beach clubs and resorts on Saadiyat are the best in the capital, and the course is a genuine pleasure without ever beating you up. The smart move on most Abu Dhabi golf holidays is to stay on Saadiyat, play Saadiyat Beach early in the trip, then save Yas Links for the marquee morning. Both courses sit inside our ranking of the best courses in the UAE.

Yas Links vs Saadiyat Beach questions

Which course is harder, Yas Links or Saadiyat Beach?

Yas Links, clearly. The wind off the Gulf, the firm run offs and the trouble along the mangroves punish loose shots, and from the back tees it is a championship examination. Saadiyat Beach is the longer card on paper but plays far gentler from the resort tees, with wide corridors built for holiday golf.

How far apart are the two courses?

About 35 kilometers, roughly 25 minutes by car on Abu Dhabi's fast highways. Playing both in one trip is easy from either island, and many visitors split their stay between Yas and Saadiyat hotels.

What do the two courses cost to play?

In 2026, Yas Links runs about AED 880 to 1,100 depending on season and tee time when booked through the official site. Saadiyat Beach typically runs AED 525 to 675, with off peak rounds from roughly AED 295. Both fees are indicative; always confirm directly before booking.

When is the best time for golf in Abu Dhabi?

October to May, with November to March the sweet spot of warm sun and bearable afternoons. High summer golf is dawn only: courses stay open, fees drop, and carts with misting fans become essential rather than optional.
