A long, golf rich coastline from Danang to Ho Chi Minh City, where Norman, Faldo and Robert Trent Jones Jr designs sit beside beach resorts and remarkable food.
Vietnam suits the golfer who wants new, world class courses without the established price tags of Japan or Australia, wrapped in a holiday of beaches, history and some of the best food in Asia.
It works well for couples and mixed groups as much as buddies trips, since the resorts are strong and the non golf days are genuinely worth taking. Caddies, one per player, are part of the experience.
Most great Vietnam trips base on the Danang coast, the country's golf capital, then add the southern dunes of Ho Tram. These are the courses to anchor it.

Faldo's Vietnamese course threads through rice paddies, streams and jungle hills between the mountains and the sea.
Set in the valleys below the Ba Na hill station, a Luke Donald design with a pine framed front nine and a tumbling back. Often floodlit for cooler evening play.
Vietnam's first Robert Trent Jones Jr design, a modern coastal links with several holes hard against the beach.
A second Norman design on the Danang coast, the Dunes course a true links test along the sand.
A parkland and links hybrid between Danang and Hoi An, a gentler counterpoint to the big dunes courses.
Vietnam green fees usually include a caddie, which is close to mandatory, and often a cart. Add comfortable hotels and private transfers and the all in cost still undercuts most established Asian destinations.

Base first on the Danang coast, the country's golf capital, then fly south for the dunes of Ho Tram.
Settle in around Danang or Hoi An and play BRG Danang's Dunes and Montgomerie Links, with the beach and old town close by.
Inland to the Luke Donald course in the hills, with cooler air, big elevation changes and the cable car and hill station nearby.
North to Faldo's resort course among rice paddies and streams, an easy day with a spa afternoon to follow.
Robert Trent Jones Jr's coastal links south of Hoi An, several holes right on the sand.
A short flight to Ho Chi Minh City and a transfer to the Ho Tram strip on the southern coast.
The headline round, Norman's dunes masterpiece, ideally played twice if time allows.
A final day in Ho Chi Minh City for food and markets before the flight home.
Central Vietnam around Danang plays well for much of the year, but the comfortable, dry window for the whole country is November to April. The southern resorts near Ho Tram are best avoided in the May to October wet season, when afternoon storms are common.
Caddies are effectively required and tipped separately, so factor that in. Book marquee tee times at The Bluffs and Ba Na Hills early in high season, and allow a buffer day for weather on a longer trip.
Almost always, yes. Most Vietnamese courses require one caddie per player, usually included in or added to the green fee and tipped separately. They are a genuine help on unfamiliar, hilly layouts.

Very much so. Hoi An's old town, Danang's beaches, the food and the spas make Vietnam one of the better golf destinations for mixed groups and couples.
