Aronimink hosts its biggest week in 64 years

The 108th PGA Championship returned to Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, from May 14 to 17, 2026, the storied Donald Ross course's first major since the 1962 PGA Championship won by Gary Player. Just outside Philadelphia, Aronimink had long been a major in waiting, and in 2026 it finally took centre stage.

England's Aaron Rai claimed the Wanamaker Trophy, closing with a 65 for a nine under total of 274, three clear of Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley. It was Rai's first major title and made him the first Englishman to win the PGA Championship since Jim Barnes in 1919, a result that gave a classic American venue a memorable champion.

Our take

Aronimink is one of the most architecturally complete Donald Ross layouts in existence, and Ross himself reportedly called it the course he built better than he knew. The ridge and valley terrain gives a relentless sequence of testing holes that needs no length tricks to defend par, which is why it has quietly hosted nearly every kind of championship over the past century.

For the travelling golfer the obvious catch is access: Aronimink is a private members club and not open for public play. The realistic way to experience Ross golf of this calibre is to build a Philadelphia or wider Pennsylvania trip around the public courses and classic designs the region does so well, and to use a major host as the inspiration rather than the tee time. If a championship pedigree trip is what you are after, we can shape one that gets you onto the great courses you actually can play.
