7 Day Hua Hin Golf Itinerary
Hua Hin is Thailand's original golf resort, the seaside town where the King once played and where the first course in the kingdom opened in 1924. Today it is a compact cluster of world class courses set among hills, lakes and pineapple plantations, a short hop from Bangkok and wrapped in the warmth of Thai caddie culture. Here is a seven day plan around Black Mountain, Banyan, Springfield Royal, Royal Hua Hin and Sea Pines, with indicative green fees, drive times and where to stay.

Who this trip suits
Hua Hin is the easy, civilised end of Asian golf, a holiday as much as a tour, and it suits golfers who want excellent courses, gentle logistics and a great deal of value. It works beautifully for a buddies trip, a couples holiday or a mixed group of varying handicaps, because the golf is enjoyable rather than punishing, the climate is kind and the off course life, beaches, spas, seafood and night markets, is a pleasure in itself. The famous Thai caddies make every round sociable and stress free, carrying, reading greens and keeping you smiling, and the green fees are a fraction of what comparable courses cost in Europe or America.
The best thing about Hua Hin is how close together everything sits. The courses are mostly within twenty to forty minutes of town, so you are never far from the pool, and the plan below keeps the driving short so the focus stays on the golf and the relaxation. Book Black Mountain, the standout, on a weekday for the best rate and the quietest tee sheet, then arrange the rest around it.
The 7 day plan
Royal Hua Hin Golf Course
Begin where Thai golf began, at Royal Hua Hin, the kingdom's oldest course, laid out beside the railway station in 1924 by a Scottish railway engineer and still threading charmingly through the hills above the town. It is short, historic and full of character, the perfect gentle opener to ease off the flight and into the heat. Walk it with your caddie, then stroll down to the seafront for a first Thai dinner. A lovely, low key start.
Banyan Golf Club
Into the hills behind town for Banyan, carved out of a former pineapple plantation and named the best new course in the Asia Pacific on its 2009 debut, with sloping fairways, elevated greens and long views over the valley. It is scenic, varied and a genuine test off the back tees while remaining great fun from the right ones. Indicatively a mid range green fee. A satisfying second round before the marquee course.
Black Mountain Golf Club
The jewel of the trip. Black Mountain, designed by Phil Ryan of Pacific Coast Design and opened in 2007, is routinely rated the best course in Thailand and among the finest in the world outside the United States, a dramatic layout of granite outcrops, water and immaculate conditioning that has hosted Asian Tour and other professional events. Indicatively around 3,500 baht on a weekday. Play it midweek for the quietest sheet, savour every hole, and enjoy the buzzing clubhouse afterwards. The round you will talk about for years.
Springfield Royal Country Club
A short drive toward Cha-am brings you to Springfield Royal, a Jack Nicklaus design of 27 immaculate holes flowing through wetlands and mature trees, a classic resort layout with generous fairways and clever greens. Indicatively a mid range green fee. It is polished, playable and beautifully kept, an ideal change of pace after Black Mountain, and the on site resort makes a relaxed lunch stop. Play in the morning and keep the afternoon for the beach.
Sea Pines Golf Course
Wind down at Sea Pines, a relaxed, mature course set among casuarina pines close to the shore on the northern edge of town, flatter and friendlier than the hill courses and a gentle pleasure to walk. Indicatively an excellent value green fee. It is the easy round of the week, made for a sociable morning with the caddies before an afternoon by the water. A restful contrast before the final day.
Imperial Lake View, Cha-am
Finish on the Cha-am side at Imperial Lake View, a spacious 27 hole resort course set around lakes and gardens, a calm and scenic last round to round off the week. Indicatively a good value green fee. Play in the morning, then spend the afternoon on the beach or back in Hua Hin for the night market and a final seafood feast. A gentle, pretty close to a brilliant value golf holiday.

Where to stay and how to play it
Hua Hin rewards a single comfortable base, since the courses ring the town within an easy drive. Pick a beachfront resort or a town hotel near the night market, arrange a car and driver or course transfers, which are inexpensive and remove all the hassle, and tee off in the mornings to beat the heat with afternoons left for the pool, a spa or the beach. Black Mountain, the standout, is best played midweek for the rate and the quiet, so anchor the week around it and let the gentler courses fill the days either side. The flight from Bangkok is short, or the road transfer is a scenic three hours, and the whole trip runs at the relaxed, smiling pace that makes Thailand such a joy to play. Seven days gives you six rounds, a beach day and time to do nothing at all, which is exactly the point.
