Quinta do Lago Dress Code and Etiquette

Quinta do Lago is a relaxed Algarve resort to play, but it keeps a clear standard on the South, North and Laranjal courses. The rule is a collared or polo shirt tucked in, tailored trousers or shorts with socks, and golf shoes with soft spikes, with no denim, t-shirts or metal spikes. Here is exactly what to wear, what is left at home, and the etiquette that keeps a round running well.

The short answer

Across all three courses at Quinta do Lago, the South, the North and Laranjal, the standard is the familiar Algarve resort code, smart and easy to meet. Shirts must have a collar or a polo neck and are expected to be tucked into the trousers or shorts. Trousers and shorts must be tailored with belt loops, which rules out denim jeans, cargo and athletic styles, and socks are obligatory. Footwear is golf shoes with soft spikes; metal spikes and tennis shoes are not allowed. Meet that and you are welcome on any of the courses.

The reason to pack correctly is simply that the standard is enforced as part of the resort experience, and the courses sit at the upper end of Algarve golf. Swimwear and t-shirts are also outside the code. None of this is onerous for a golfer, but it is worth packing golf specific clothing rather than relying on what is in the bag for the beach. Everything below was checked in June 2026 against Quinta do Lago information and is indicative, so always confirm the current dress code and access rules directly with the resort before you travel.

What to wear, and what to leave at home

For most of the Algarve season the easy Quinta do Lago outfit is a golf polo, tailored shorts and socks, with a light layer in the bag for early starts and the cooler winter months. The central Algarve is warm and dry for much of the year, so shorts are the norm rather than the exception, but spring and autumn mornings and the winter weeks can be fresh enough to want a sweater or a windproof. Sun protection matters more than waterproofs here; pack a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water for the warmer rounds.

What sits outside the code is the holiday wardrobe: denim jeans, t-shirts, swimwear and beach footwear, along with cargo styles and any shoe with metal spikes. Leave those for the pool and the restaurants of Quinta do Lago and Almancil, and pack golf specific clothing instead. The resort's professional shops carry course appropriate apparel if you arrive short, but it is simpler to pack correctly. The same smart casual standard carries comfortably into the clubhouses and the resort's dining.

Etiquette on a resort round

Quinta do Lago is a polished, well run resort with three quality layouts, the William Mitchell era South, the redesigned North and the more recent Laranjal in the pine and cork hills inland. Buggies are widely used here and are often included or available, which keeps a round moving on a warm day, and caddies can be arranged on request. Knowing the local rules on buggies and where they may go around greens and tees is part of the etiquette, so follow the signage and the starter's direction.

Pace of play

Keep up with the group ahead rather than simply ahead of the group behind, be ready to play when it is your turn, and keep a ball search short on a busy resort tee sheet, especially in the peak spring and autumn weeks. The courses reward a steady, sociable pace.

Care for the course

Repair pitch marks on the greens, replace divots or use the sand provided, rake bunkers thoroughly, and keep buggies and trolleys to the paths and well away from greens and tees. The conditioning here is a point of pride, and looking after it keeps it that way.

Buggies and phones

Follow the buggy rules and any cart path only signage, keep phones on silent on the course, and treat the staff and other groups with the usual courtesy. For how the courses actually play and what they cost, see our guide to Quinta do Lago green fees and the full Quinta do Lago South profile.
