How to Play Golf in the Veneto

Only one city in the world makes you take a boat to a 1928 golf club, and that is the point of the Veneto. Circolo Golf Venezia sits on the dunes at Alberoni on the Venice Lido, a three time Italian Open host that costs 80 to 95 euros and books direct; Montecchia and Asolo add 27 hole clubs within an hour; and the whole region pairs golf with Venice, Padova and prosecco country. Here is how to get on each one.

The short answer

The round the trip is built on is Circolo Golf Venezia. Founded in 1928 on the sandy southern tip of the Lido, the first nine was laid out by the Scottish architect Cruickshank, sent by the Glasgow firm of Maxwell M. Hart, around an old Austrian fortification whose stones still form the clubhouse. A second nine after the war made it the par 72 that has played host to the Italian Open in 1955, 1960 and 1974, and names from Arnold Palmer to Lee Trevino to the Molinari brothers have crossed the lagoon to play it. Visitors are welcome every day at about 80 to 95 euros with a handicap certificate, and you arrive the only way Venice allows: vaporetto or car ferry down the Lido, then ten minutes along the island.

Inland, the supporting rounds are generous and cheap by any standard. Golf della Montecchia, 27 holes outside Padova, publishes 64 to 90 euros depending on day and season and pairs naturally with a Padova or Euganean Hills stay. Asolo Golf Club runs 27 holes in the Treviso foothills under the walled hill town of the same name, and Ca' della Nave at Martellago covers the mainland side of Venice itself. How to book the Veneto, step by step

  1. Fix dates in April to June or September to October, then fly to Venice Marco Polo. A rental car covers the inland clubs; the Lido round needs no car at all if you are staying in Venice.
  2. Book Circolo Golf Venezia first and build the trip's signature day around it: vaporetto down the Grand Canal, the length of the Lido, golf among the dunes and umbrella pines, and back across the lagoon for dinner. Carry your handicap certificate.
  3. Add Montecchia on a Padova day. Weekday fees from 64 euros in low season are the region's value play, and Giotto's Scrovegni Chapel is 20 minutes from the course.
  4. Slot Asolo for the hills. The 27 holes sit under one of Italy's prettiest walled towns, and the prosecco road through Valdobbiadene is the natural afternoon.
  5. Keep Ca' della Nave for the last morning; Martellago is 25 minutes from Marco Polo, which makes it the sensible round before an evening flight.

Dress is classic Italian club golf, a collared shirt and tailored trousers or shorts, and most clubs close one weekday for maintenance, commonly Monday or Tuesday, so check before routing. Tee sheets outside summer weekends are gentle; one to two weeks of lead time is usually plenty everywhere except the Lido in May and September.

Routing the trip, and where to stay

Split the nights. Three in Venice or on the Lido itself, where a Lido beach hotel puts the golf club, the Adriatic beaches and the vaporetto stop within minutes, then two inland, either Padova for Montecchia or the Asolo hills for the slow Italy of small hotels and long dinners. The Veneto hub maps the full region, and the Italy destination hub sets it against Rome, Tuscany and Sardinia; our Rome and Lazio guide covers the capital's courses if the trip runs south.

To have the boats, rounds and both bases booked as one piece, start from Italy golf holidays, or go up a tier with luxury golf tours of Italy.

Veneto golf access questions

Can visitors play the Venice golf club at Alberoni?

Yes. Circolo Golf Venezia, founded in 1928 on the dunes at Alberoni on the southern tip of the Venice Lido, welcomes visitors every day with advance booking essential and a valid handicap certificate required. Green fees run about 80 to 95 euros. The club began as nine holes laid out by the Scottish architect Cruickshank around an old Austrian fortification and has played as a par 72 since 1951. Always confirm directly before booking.

How much are green fees in the Veneto in 2026?

The headline round at Circolo Golf Venezia runs about 80 to 95 euros. Golf della Montecchia near Padova publishes 64 to 90 euros depending on season and day of the week, and the region's other 27 hole clubs, Asolo in the Treviso foothills and Ca' della Nave at Martellago, sit in a similar band. It is some of the best value classic golf in Italy. All fees are indicative 2026 rates, so always confirm directly before booking.

What is the best golf course near Venice?

Circolo Golf Venezia at Alberoni. Founded in 1928 on the sandy southern end of the Lido, it has hosted the Italian Open three times, in 1955, 1960 and 1974, and champions from Arnold Palmer to Francesco Molinari have played it. You reach it by car ferry or vaporetto from Venice itself, which makes it one of the most atmospheric golf days in Europe. Always confirm tee times directly before booking.

When is the best time to play golf in the Veneto?

April to June and September to October. Spring and autumn bring warm days in the low to mid 20s Celsius, the lagoon light at its best and open tee sheets. July and August are hot and humid on the plain, though the Lido catches a sea breeze, so play mornings. Winter is quiet and mild enough for golf most weeks, with fog the main hazard. Always confirm conditions directly before booking.
