Italy Golf Holidays

Italy arrived as a golf destination the day the Ryder Cup came to Rome, and the rest of the country has caught up fast. Pair a round on the Ryder Cup stage with a Sicilian resort and a long lunch and you have one of the most complete golf and culture trips in Europe. Here is how we build it.

Who this trip suits

Italy is the golf trip for the group that wants more than golf. The courses are good and getting better, but the draw is the whole package: a morning on a championship layout, an afternoon among ruins or vineyards, and dinners that run for hours. Rome is the natural hub, with the Ryder Cup host Marco Simone and the old guard at Olgiata both a short drive from the centre, so you can play serious golf and still walk the Forum before dinner.

Beyond Rome the country opens up. Sicily offers the Rocco Forte resort at Verdura, a self contained luxury base with two Kyle Phillips courses by the sea. The north, around Turin and the lakes, holds classic Robert Trent Jones parkland and the cooler air of the Alps. It suits couples and mixed ability groups who value food, scenery and a relaxed pace as much as the card, and it rewards anyone willing to build the trip around one region rather than racing the length of the country.

A sample five night structure

Day one, fly to Rome and settle into the centre or near the course. Day two, the Ryder Cup round at Marco Simone, then the evening in the city. Day three, a second Rome round at Olgiata and an afternoon among the ruins. Day four, fly south to Sicily and the Verdura resort for the coast and the spa. Day five, golf on the Verdura East Course by the sea before a final Sicilian dinner and the flight home.

When to go

Spring, from April to June, and autumn, in September and October, are the prime windows on the mainland, warm and settled with quiet fairways. Sicily and the south stay playable for most of the year. Midsummer is hot inland, and the northern courses near the Alps shut over the coldest months, so plan the north for the warmer half of the year.

Good to know

Italy golf questions, answered

When is the best time for a golf holiday in Italy?

April to June and September to October are the prime windows on the mainland, warm and settled. Sicily and the south play almost year round. Midsummer is hot inland, and the northern courses near the Alps close in winter.

Can you play the Ryder Cup course?

Yes. Marco Simone, half an hour from central Rome, hosted the 2023 Ryder Cup and welcomes visitors by advance booking. It is the headline round of any Italian golf trip, with St Peter's on the horizon and a medieval castle beside the course.

How much are green fees in Italy?

Indicative 2026 green fees run from about €90 at the classic clubs to €250 in high season at Marco Simone. Resort courses such as Verdura are often best on a stay and play package. Always confirm directly before booking.

Where is the best golf in Italy?

Rome leads with Marco Simone and Olgiata. Sicily has the Rocco Forte resort at Verdura, and the north around Turin and the lakes holds classic Trent Jones parkland such as Royal Park I Roveri.
