Green Fees in Costa Rica's Pacific Coast: What It Costs to Play in 2026

Costa Rica plays its golf where the jungle meets the Pacific, and the money math is friendlier than the views suggest: ninety dollars buys a twilight round on an oceanside Mike Young design, two hundred covers almost any tee time on the coast, and only Arnold Palmer's peninsula course asks for a hotel room first. Here are the 2026 numbers, course by course.

The short answer

Budget US$90 to US$200 a round and you can play everything that sells a tee time on this coast. The bargain of the corridor is Hacienda Pinilla near Tamarindo, Mike Young's par 72 that stretches toward 7,200 yards through dry forest to the ocean: about US$125 for outside visitors in 2026, US$105 for resort guests and US$90 for anyone teeing off after 1pm. An hour north, Reserva Conchal's Robert Trent Jones II par 71 at the Westin moves with the calendar, published rates running roughly US$135 in the green season toward US$200 in the dry months with guest priority on the tee sheet. Down the coast at Playa Herradura, La Iguana at Los Suenos, Ted Robinson Jr.'s rainforest corridor where macaws and monkeys are regulars, is about US$195 with cart.

The exception that proves the access rule is the best course in the country: Arnold Palmer's Ocean Course on Peninsula Papagayo is reserved for members and registered guests of the peninsula's resorts, led by the Four Seasons, with guest play around US$250 including cart. There is no walk up fee, so the Palmer course is bought with a room night, not a green fee. All rates here are indicative for the 2026 season, quoted with shared cart where the clubs include one, and always confirm directly before booking. Hacienda Pinilla, TamarindoAbout US$125 outside visitors, US$105 resort guests, US$90 twilight after 1pm. Mike Young par 72 toward 7,200 yards, the coast's best value and its most underrated walk; the ocean holes alone repay the fee
Reserva Conchal, Westin Playa ConchalPublished rates roughly US$135 green season to US$200 dry season, with Westin guests holding tee sheet priority and preferential pricing. Robert Trent Jones II par 71 through tropical forest with Pacific glimpses; nine hole rates offered
La Iguana, Los Suenos MarriottAbout US$195 with cart. Ted Robinson Jr. par 72 cut through genuine rainforest on the central Pacific, 90 minutes from San Jose; scarlet macaws are not a marketing line, they are on the scorecard holes
Ocean Course, Peninsula PapagayoMembers and registered resort guests only, around US$250 including cart for guests. Arnold Palmer par 72 over headlands above Culebra Bay, the country's best course; access requires a stay on the peninsula, led by the Four Seasons

How to pay less for the same golf

Play the calendar and the clock. The dry season, December through April, is peak everything: peak sun, peak crowds, peak rates. The green season from May to November cuts the published fee at Conchal by a third and empties the tee sheets, and the rain pattern in Guanacaste is an afternoon affair, so a 7am start plays dry far more often than the word rainy implies. The clock works at Pinilla, where 1pm is the magic number: US$90 twilight golf on an oceanside course is the single best value tee time in Central America, and the light over the Pacific in the closing holes is the bonus the morning players never see.

One budgeting note: carts are usually in the quoted rate on this coast, but caddies and forecaddies, where offered, are extra and worth it at La Iguana, where the wildlife spotting alone justifies the hire. Costa Rica green fee questions

How much is a round of golf in Costa Rica?

On the Pacific coast, budget about US$90 to US$200 for visitor play in 2026. Hacienda Pinilla lists about US$125 for outside visitors with twilight at US$90 after 1pm, La Iguana is about US$195, and Reserva Conchal's published rates move by season and guest status, roughly US$135 to US$200. Fees are indicative; always confirm directly before booking.

Can I play the Four Seasons course at Peninsula Papagayo?

Only by staying. Arnold Palmer's Ocean Course is reserved for members and registered guests of the peninsula's resorts, led by the Four Seasons, with guest rates around US$250 including cart. There is no reliable walk up green fee, so the room is part of the price.

When is golf cheapest in Costa Rica?

The green season, roughly May through November, when Conchal's published rate drops and the tee sheets empty. Guanacaste mornings stay largely dry even in the rainy months, with showers concentrating in the afternoon, so an early green season tee time is superb value. December through April is the dry season and the price peak.

Do green fees include a cart in Costa Rica?

Usually yes. Most Pacific coast resort courses, including Hacienda Pinilla and La Iguana, quote rates with a shared cart included, and the heat makes carts the norm. Check the inclusion when booking, and budget separately for caddies or forecaddies where offered.
