Tazegzout Golf
The most spectacular round on Morocco's Atlantic coast, a Kyle Phillips design that opened in 2014 in the Taghazout Bay resort 15 minutes north of Agadir. A par 72 of around 7,360 yards, it climbs to 80 metres above the sea and winds between bare limestone and preserved argan trees, building to a closing stretch on the cliff edge that is among the most thrilling finishes in North African golf.

The verdict
Tazegzout opened in 2014 to a design by Kyle Phillips, the architect behind Kingsbarns, on a rugged headland in the Taghazout Bay resort north of Agadir. It plays as a par 72 of around 7,360 yards (about 6,730 metres) and is routed in two returning nines that thread around outcrops of bare limestone and through the clusters of argan trees preserved during construction, with the Atlantic almost always in view.
Phillips uses the elevation, perched up to 80 metres above the ocean, to frame hole after hole against the sea, and the course saves its best for last: a closing run along the cliffs, capped by a memorable par 3 at the 17th, that lingers long after the round. With warm, reliable winter conditions and easy access from Agadir, it is the standout reason to bring the clubs to Morocco's southern coast.

The holes worth the trip
The routing makes constant use of the headland, lifting tees and greens above the argan scrub so the Atlantic is rarely out of frame. Phillips leaves the bare limestone and the old trees in play, giving the corridors a wild, natural edge that contrasts with the manicured surfaces.
Wind off the ocean is the defining defence. On a calm morning the course can be charmed, but when the Atlantic breeze gets up the longer holes demand a controlled, flighted ball and the short holes become a guessing game of club and line.
The finish is the headline. The final three holes run hard along the cliff top, and the par 3 17th, played toward the sea, is the signature, a hole that turns a pleasant resort round into a memorable one and sends you to the clubhouse already planning the next visit.

Where to stay nearby
Most golfers stay within Taghazout Bay, where the resort's hotels sit minutes from the first tee and from the beaches that made the area a surf magnet. Agadir, a short drive south, adds a fuller choice of beachfront hotels and restaurants.
The southern coast pairs golf with surfing, the souks and the argan country inland, and Tazegzout combines naturally with Agadir's other courses for a relaxed winter golf week in reliable sunshine. It is one of the easiest long haul golf escapes to reach from Europe.
