The Best Golf Courses in the Murcia Region

Murcia is the value heart of Spanish golf: a warm, sunny corner of the southeast where a famous three course resort sits a short drive from a whole trail of Jack Nicklaus designs, most with a hotel beside the first tee. You can play a different quality course every day from one base and pay less than you would on the Costa del Sol. Here are the six courses we rate most highly across the region, ranked.

How we chose them

We weighed design quality and conditioning against the things that make Murcia such an easy golf trip: a high concentration of good courses within a short drive, on site resort accommodation, and strong value. The region's golf splits into two camps, the resort scale of La Manga Club and the long Dave Thomas test at Hacienda del Alamo, and the string of Jack Nicklaus designs that make up the so called Nicklaus Golf Trail. We ranked the best of both, noting which pair with a hotel for a stay and play.

Every designer, par and yardage here was checked at the time of writing against club and resort sources, and each course links to its full profile where we have one. The order and the verdicts are ours. Tell us your dates and your group and one concierge builds the trip, books the tee times and arranges the resort stay.

The ranking

01

La Manga Club

Three courses, North, South and West · Los Belones, Cartagena · par 71 to 73

The flagship of Murcia golf and one of the most complete resorts in Europe, with three full championship courses, a sports complex, hotels and decades of experience hosting societies and tour events. The South is the headline test, the West a top track in its own right, and the scale lets you play a different course each day and house and feed the whole group on site. The default for a society, a family or a longer Murcia trip.

02

Hacienda del Alamo

Dave Thomas · Fuente Alamo · par 72

A long, modern Dave Thomas championship course of around 6,724 meters from the back tees, one of the longest in the southeast and many golfers' pick for the best pure test in Murcia. It is generous off the tee but demanding into well guarded greens, integrated handsomely into the rolling terrain, with a hotel and spa on site. A serious, well conditioned course that suits better players and stays and plays alike.

03

Alhama Signature Golf

Jack Nicklaus Signature · Alhama de Murcia · par 72

Regarded by many as the finest of the region's Nicklaus designs, a Signature course with well placed hazards and undulating greens that ask real strategy of the better player. It is immaculately presented and framed by the Sierra Espuna, with a hotel on site, and rewards course management over raw length. The pick of the Nicklaus Trail for a golfer who wants the most thoughtful and best kept of the group.

04

Mar Menor Golf Resort

Jack Nicklaus design · Torre Pacheco · par 72

A Nicklaus Trail resort course of around 6,153 meters near the Mar Menor lagoon, a demanding par 72 wrapped around a village of apartments and a hotel. It is one of the most convenient stay and play bases in the region, walkable, well kept and close to the coast and the airport. A reliable, good value choice for a group that wants Nicklaus design and accommodation in one place.

05

Saurines de la Torre

Jack Nicklaus design · Roldan, near the Mar Menor · par 72

A desert influenced Nicklaus design on the Nicklaus Golf Trail, with sandy waste areas, native scrub and bold green complexes that give it a distinct, strategic character. It is a striking, modern test set among the resort developments inland of the Mar Menor, good value and quieter than the marquee names. A smart addition to a multi course Murcia itinerary for variety.
