Ho Chi Minh City, still widely known as Saigon, has quietly become one of Asia's most convenient golf bases. You can play a 36 hole estate in the morning and be back among the rooftop bars of District 1 by evening, with several of the courses no more than 40 minutes from the center and one of them, uniquely, right beside the international airport. The golf spreads across the city and into the neighboring provinces of Dong Nai and Binh Duong, where land allowed the biggest and best layouts to be built.

Set across a vast estate of more than 350 hectares about 40 minutes from the city, Long Thanh splits into a Hill Course on an elevated plateau and a Lake Course wrapped around branches of the Dong Nai River. The scale, the conditioning and the clubhouse are all first class, and the variety across the two layouts makes it an easy choice to anchor a golf trip out of Ho Chi Minh City.
One of the country's most established clubs, only about 20 kilometers from the center, long considered the leading members club in southern Vietnam and a host of early national tournaments. It offers two contrasting 18 hole courses, mature and well conditioned, that have welcomed diplomats and visiting dignitaries for years. The pedigree, the proximity to the city and the two course variety make it a natural pairing with Long Thanh on a Saigon itinerary.
The most convenient round in Vietnam and a genuine novelty, the first course built in the urban area of Ho Chi Minh City and laid out right next to Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Two 18 hole layouts wind through lush greenery within sight of the terminals, and it has hosted international events. For a golfer with a long layover or an early flight, being able to play a championship course minutes from departures is hard to beat.
Vietnam's first private golf club, set on a large estate in Binh Duong province north of the city, with 27 holes of international standard championship golf and a reputation for immaculate conditioning and high service. The layout makes the most of water and mature landscaping, and as a flagship members club it offers a more exclusive experience than the city courses. Visitor access takes arranging, but the quality rewards the effort for a discerning group.
A modern Greg Norman design in Binh Duong, north of the city, that rounds out the list with a strong, contemporary layout and excellent conditioning. The Norman routing brings water and shaping into play across rolling parkland, and the club's newer facilities make for a comfortable day out.
