How we ranked them
Finland is not a household golf destination, but for the traveller who wants something different it is a quiet gem. The season is short, roughly May to October, yet in June and July the near endless Nordic daylight lets you tee off at ten at night, and the courses are routed through forest, lakeshore and bare granite that you find nowhere else in golf. We weight the quality and variety of the holes, the setting, the condition and the sense of place, leaning toward the modern designs that have lifted Finnish golf onto the European radar. Most of the best sit within a couple of hours of Helsinki, with Tahko the standout in the lake country to the north.
The ranking
Linna Golf
Consistently ranked the number one course in Finland and a regular in the wider European top one hundreds. The European Golf Design layout sits beside the historic Aulanko nature reserve about an hour north of Helsinki, built to USGA specification with rolling, forest framed holes and immaculate conditioning. The most polished and complete round in the country, and the obvious centrepiece of any Finnish golf trip.
