Golf Society Trips to Scotland

The home of golf, the hardest Open links, a Ryder Cup estate and one of the oldest courses in the world, arranged for a group with the tee sheet, the hotel and the coach handled for you. A society trip to Scotland is the bucket list run done together. Here is who it suits, the courses to build around, a sample week and what it costs.

Who it suits

A society trip to Scotland is built for a group that wants the great links played together, with the logistics taken off the captain's plate. Twelve to twenty four players is the sweet spot, but anything from a fourball to forty plus works. The challenge is never the desire to go, it is the tee sheet: blocking consecutive times across St Andrews, Carnoustie and Gleneagles, entering the Old Course ballot, and finding a hotel that takes the whole party.

That is exactly what we handle. We staggered the tee times, hold guaranteed alternatives where a ballot is involved, arrange the coach or minibuses, and can run a simple order of merit so there is a winner to toast at the closing dinner. The society plays, eats and travels as one, and no one is left chasing a missing tee time.

Courses to build around

St Andrews Old Course, the home of golf, Scotland

St Andrews, Old Course

The home of golf and the round every society wants on the sheet. A public links run by the Links Trust, par 72, with a daily ballot for most tee times and a Sunday rest day. The shared fairways, the Swilcan Bridge and the Road Hole make it unforgettable for a group. Indicative 2026, confirm before booking.

Carnoustie Golf Links Championship course on the Angus coast, Scotland

Carnoustie, Championship

The toughest of the Open links, a brutal, brilliant par 72 on the Angus coast where the closing stretch has broken champions. A three course ticket lets a society spread across the Championship, Burnside and Buddon. Indicative green fee around 270 pounds high season, 2026, confirm before booking.

Gleneagles PGA Centenary course in Perthshire, Scotland

Gleneagles, PGA Centenary

Jack Nicklaus' parkland par 72 in Perthshire, host of the 2014 Ryder Cup and the 2019 Solheim Cup, with a five star hotel and three courses on the estate for an easy society base. Group rates run Sunday to Thursday. Indicative green fee around 95 to 325 pounds by season, 2026.

North Berwick West Links on the East Lothian coast, Scotland

North Berwick, West Links

One of the oldest and most charming links in the world, on the East Lothian coast a half hour from Edinburgh, with blind shots, stone walls and the famous Redan 15th. A par 71 that societies adore for its quirks and its welcome. Indicative 2026, confirm before booking.

Questions

How does the Old Course ballot work for a society?

The Old Course runs a daily ballot for most tee times, drawn two days ahead, and it is closed on Sundays. Groups can also apply for advance reservations through the Links Trust. We enter the ballot, hold a guaranteed alternative such as the New or Jubilee, and keep the rest of the week firm so the society is never without golf.

Do society players need a handicap certificate?

Several championship links ask for a handicap certificate or a maximum handicap, commonly around 24 for men and 36 for women on the showpiece courses. We confirm the requirements for each course before you travel so the whole society arrives with the right paperwork.

When is the best time for a society trip to Scotland?

May to September gives the longest days and firmest links turf, with June offering daylight past ten at night for two rounds a day. April and October are cheaper and quieter but the weather is more of a gamble.
