Pacific Dunes
Widely rated the best at the resort and one of the finest modern courses anywhere, a Tom Doak routing along the bluffs with back to back par 3s and holes hard against the Pacific.

Five walking links courses on a wild stretch of the Oregon coast, caddies, fire pits and the Punchbowl at dusk. Bandon Dunes is the great American buddies trip, and this is how to build it.
Bandon Dunes suits a group of friends who want golf and little else: five walking links courses, a caddie on the bag, a beer at the turn and nowhere to be but the next tee. There is no resort glitz here, just the game played the old way on a magnificent coast.
It works best for a tight group of four to twelve who will play thirty six holes a day and still want more. Phones go in the locker, the Punchbowl putting course settles the evening bets, and the lodges and fire pits keep the trip together off the course.
Every course is walking only, firm and links true, and all sit on the same property within a short shuttle. Play them in any order, then settle the trip on the Punchbowl as the sun drops.

The original that started it all, David McLay Kidd's clifftop links that proved this coast could rival the great courses of Scotland and Ireland. Big, bold and exposed to the wind.
A tribute to C.B. Macdonald with vast greens, template holes and the most room off the tee at the resort. Quirky, huge and enormous fun in a group.
A mile of ocean frontage, no bunkers and nine greens perched on the cliff edge. The newest championship course and the most exposed, with the sea in play across the back nine.
The change of pace, a Coore and Crenshaw routing that leaves the dunes for forest and meadow inland. A beautiful counterpoint to the coastal four.
The 13 hole par 3 Preserve, by Coore and Crenshaw, and the new 19 hole Shorty's, are where the evening matches and the side bets are won and lost.
Bandon prices on a seasonal scale, and resort guests pay materially less than day visitors, with the second round of the day cheaper still. Caddies are paid separately and tipped. The figures below are indicative resort guest rates for a single round.

On site lodging, caddies booked ahead and two rounds a day. A classic Bandon buddies schedule with the Punchbowl every evening.
Fly into North Bend or drive from Portland, check into the lodges, then a twilight loop of the Bandon Preserve to open the betting.
The two originals back to back with caddies, lunch between rounds, and the Punchbowl at dusk.
The cliff edge newcomer in the morning and the template giant in the afternoon, with the wind deciding the matches.
The inland change of pace, then a replay of the group's favourite from the week before a final dinner by the fire.
A last walk to the bluffs, a morning coffee and the drive or flight home with the bets settled.
Bandon plays year round, but the prime window is May to October, when the Oregon coast is at its kindest, though even summer brings wind and the chance of fog. The shoulder months are cheaper and quieter, and the hardy find real value and empty courses in winter, weather permitting.
The resort books well ahead, and the best lodging and the prime summer dates for a group go a year or more in advance. Decide your dates and group size first, then secure the lodging and caddies early. Bring rain gear whatever the forecast, because this is the coast.
Five full length walking links courses: Pacific Dunes, Bandon Dunes, Old Macdonald, Sheep Ranch and Bandon Trails. There are also two short courses, the 13 hole Bandon Preserve and the new 19 hole Shorty's, perfect for evening matches.
Yes. Bandon is walking only, in the links tradition, with caddies and pull carts available. Buggies are reserved for golfers with a medical need. The walking is part of what makes the place special.

The closest airport is North Bend (OTH), a short drive away, with connections through the West Coast hubs. Many groups fly into Portland and drive about four and a half hours down the coast, making a road trip of it.
