Best Time to Play Golf in Sweden, 2026

Sweden is one of Europe's most golf mad nations, with championship parkland at Bro Hof Slott, classic links at Falsterbo and Barseback in the south and, far to the north, the surreal pull of midnight sun golf. The season is short but intense, lit by extraordinarily long summer days. Get the month right and you can play almost around the clock. Here is when to go in 2026.

A short, bright northern season

Sweden plays golf on a compressed spring to autumn calendar set by a northern climate, with the season noticeably longer in the south than the north. In southern Sweden, around Skane, courses typically open in the first half of April and stay open through October, sometimes into early November in a kind autumn. The further north you go, the shorter and later the season becomes.

The defining feature is light. Through midsummer the days are enormous, and in the far north the sun barely sets, so golfers can tee off late in the evening and finish a round without floodlights. Daytime temperatures in the prime months are mild rather than hot, generally in the high teens to low twenties Celsius in the south, with courses lush and well kept. Spring and autumn are quieter and cooler shoulders either side of the summer peak.

Spring, April to May

The season opens. Southern courses come into play from early April, and May brings milder air, lengthening days and fresh, well rested turf. Crowds are light and value is good, though early spring weather is changeable and the season starts later the further north you travel.

Summer, June to August

The peak, and the reason to come. June to August brings the warmest weather, the lushest courses and astonishingly long days, with golf possible late into the evening across the country. The south is in prime form and demand is at its highest, so book ahead for the marquee courses and resorts.

Midnight sun golf, the far north

A bucket list experience. North of the Arctic Circle, courses such as Bjorkliden let you play through the night under the midnight sun in high summer, a genuinely once in a lifetime round. The window is narrow, centred on June and July, and the northern season is short, so plan these trips carefully and well in advance.

Autumn and winter, September onward

September offers crisp, colourful, quieter golf as the leaves turn, a fine shoulder before courses begin closing through October. From late autumn the northern winter shuts the season down across most of the country, and Sweden turns to its winter sports until spring.

Our take

For the best of Sweden, travel between June and August, when the courses are lush, the weather is mild and the days are so long you can play late into the evening. The south, around Skane and Stockholm, is the natural base for Bro Hof Slott, Falsterbo and Barseback, while the truly adventurous should aim for June or July in the far north to experience midnight sun golf above the Arctic Circle, a narrow window that rewards early planning. Spring and September are pleasant, quieter shoulders for the south. Use our month by month travel calendar to fine tune the week, and lean on the Sweden destination guide and our best courses list to choose where to play. Treat the long winter as firmly out of season.

Sweden golf timing questions

When is the best time to play golf in Sweden?

The peak is June to August, when the weather is mild, the courses are lush and the days are extraordinarily long, allowing golf late into the evening. In the south, around Skane, the season runs from roughly April to October, while the north has a shorter, later season. Spring and September are quieter, cooler shoulder windows in the south.

Can you really play midnight sun golf in Sweden?

Yes. North of the Arctic Circle, courses such as Bjorkliden allow you to play through the night under the midnight sun during high summer, roughly centred on June and July. It is a genuine bucket list experience, but the window is narrow and the northern season short, so these trips need to be planned and booked well in advance.

Can you play golf in Sweden in winter?

Generally no. From late autumn the northern winter closes courses across most of the country, and the season does not reopen until spring, earlier in the south than the north. Winter is firmly out of season for golf, and Sweden turns to its winter sports instead.
