Green Fees in Yorkshire: What Golf Costs in 2026
Yorkshire is England's biggest golf county and one of its best kept value secrets. Three of the finest inland courses in Britain, Ganton, Alwoodley and Moortown, all cost between roughly 230 and 250 pounds at peak in 2026, about half of what the marquee English links now charge, and below them sits a deep bench of excellent golf from 110 pounds down. Here is what a Yorkshire golf trip actually costs.

The short answer
Plan on roughly 230 to 250 pounds for one of Yorkshire's big three in peak season 2026: Ganton is around 235 pounds, Alwoodley about 230 and Moortown roughly 250. Fulford, the old European Tour stage outside York, runs from about 110 pounds midweek in high season, rising to 130 on Fridays and Sundays. Those four are the spine of any Yorkshire golf trip, and the remarkable thing is how reasonable they look beside the 400 pound links of the south and the Open rota.
The figures below are indicative peak rates for 2026. They fall sharply in winter and the shoulder months, twilight and county card rates cut them further, and every club moves its prices with demand, so treat this as a guide and always confirm directly before booking.

The big three, and why they are a bargain
Ganton, in the Vale of Pickering near Scarborough, is the headline act: a heathland links hybrid built on an ancient sandy inlet, the only English inland course to have hosted the Ryder Cup, in 1949, and a fixture near the top of every Great Britain and Ireland ranking. Harry Vardon was the club professional here when he won three of his Opens. At around 235 pounds in 2026 it costs less than half of a peak round at Royal Birkdale, and visitors with a handicap are warmly received.
In north Leeds, ten minutes apart, sit two pillars of golf architecture. Alwoodley, from 1907, is the first course Alister MacKenzie ever designed, the place where the man who went on to create Augusta National and Cypress Point found his calling, and it remains a pure, gorse framed moorland masterpiece at about 230 pounds. Moortown, another MacKenzie, staged the first Ryder Cup ever played on British soil in 1929 and asks roughly 250. Played back to back they make one of the great inland golf days in Britain.
Where the value lies
Fulford is the value play of the famous names. The flat, immaculate parkland outside York hosted the European Tour for two decades, the course where Bernhard Langer famously played a shot from inside a tree in 1981, and a high season midweek round costs about 110 pounds, with April and October cheaper again. Note the rhythm of access: weekdays and Sundays for visitors, never Saturdays.
Beyond the headliners, Yorkshire golf is deep and absurdly affordable for the quality. Pannal's moorland turf above Harrogate, Hallamshire's gorse lined ridge over Sheffield and the historic Lindrick on the county's southern edge all reward a detour, and the county card scheme, twilight windows and November to February winter rates bring even the big names within reach. Ganton's dormy house turns it into a proper stay and play. Build a week around the big three plus Fulford, base in York or Harrogate, and you have a world class architecture trip for the cost of two rounds on the Open rota. That is how we plan it.

Yorkshire green fee questions
How much are green fees in Yorkshire in 2026?
The county's headline courses cluster between about 230 and 250 pounds at peak times in 2026: Ganton is around 235 pounds, Moortown about 250 and Alwoodley roughly 230. Fulford runs from about 110 pounds midweek in high season, and the broad mass of fine Yorkshire club courses costs far less. Fees move with season and day, so always confirm directly before booking.
Is Ganton worth the green fee?
In our view, emphatically. Ganton is a regular in the top 30 of Great Britain and Ireland rankings, a unique heathland links hybrid that has hosted the Ryder Cup and Walker Cup, and at around 235 pounds in 2026 it costs roughly half of what the most famous English links now charge. Twilight and county card rates bring it lower still. Always confirm current rates directly before booking.
What is the best value golf in Yorkshire?
Fulford, from about 110 pounds midweek in high season, is outstanding value for a course with decades of European Tour history. Twilight rates, winter fees from November to February and county card concessions cut the headline names sharply, with Ganton offering twilight golf from about 50 pounds. Beyond the famous four, Yorkshire is packed with excellent club courses at a fraction of these fees. Always confirm directly before booking.
Can visitors play Yorkshire's top courses at weekends?
Often, but with limits. Fulford takes visitors on weekdays and Sundays but not Saturdays, while Ganton, Alwoodley and Moortown all accept visitors subject to availability and an official handicap, with weekends tighter than midweek. Book well ahead for summer dates and always confirm access and rates directly with the club.
