Green Fees in Langkawi: What It Costs to Play in 2026
Langkawi packs one world class round and two honest supporting acts onto a single duty free island. The Els Club Teluk Datai, Ernie Els' bunkerless masterpiece where monitor lizards outnumber rakes, tops out around RM800; the other two cost less than a resort dinner. Here is the full 2026 fee picture, what the rates include, and how to play the island for less.

What golf costs on Langkawi
Three courses, three tiers. At the top sits the Els Club Teluk Datai on the island's jungle clad northwest tip, a complete 2014 Ernie Els rebuild of the old Datai Bay course, managed by Troon and routinely ranked among the best courses in Asia. Its signature is what it lacks: not a single bunker, because the rainforest, the streams and the Andaman Sea provide all the defense Els needed. Published 2026 visitor rates run from around RM695 to RM800 by season, roughly 150 to 175 US dollars with buggy included, which is serious money for Malaysia and still half what an equivalent trophy round costs in Phuket an hour's flight away.
The middle and value tiers share the island's interior. Gunung Raya Golf Resort spreads beneath Langkawi's highest mountain on the old rubber estate land of the interior, a Max Wexler design of generous fairways, big trees and mountain views, at an indicative RM318 for 18 holes with cart. And 99 East Golf Club, the 2012 revamp of the island's original course, plays nine holes above Kuah town and the bay for around RM250 with cart, the natural arrival day or sunset loop. Walking rates and twilight deals trim every number on the island, and hotel concierges hold standing discounts at all three.

How to pay less, and what to know
Time the season
November to April is the dry high season, with the best conditions and the highest rates; May to October brings short tropical downpours, softer fairways and the island's best deals. The smart compromise is the shoulder: late October and early November, or April, when the weather usually holds and rates have not peaked. Whatever the month, take the earliest tee time on the sheet, both for the temperature and for the wildlife, because the Els Club's hornbills and monkeys work the fairways at dawn.
Use the hotels
Langkawi golf is hotel golf. Guests at The Datai access preferred rates and prime times at the Els Club next door, and most of the island's resorts hold standing arrangements with Gunung Raya and 99 East that beat the rack rate. Book rounds when you book the room. Club rental is good at the Els Club and adequate elsewhere, so a short trip travels light, and the island's duty free status takes the sting out of the nineteenth hole.
Budget the extras
Buggies are included in the standard rates above, caddies are optional rather than compulsory, and a forecaddie at the Els Club is worth arranging for a first round, both for the lines and for the lizard commentary. Transfers are short: nothing on Langkawi is much more than 40 minutes from anything else, and the airport sits 20 minutes from both the Datai coast and Gunung Raya. For the wider country picture, our Malaysia destination guide and Malaysia golf holidays page put Langkawi alongside Kuala Lumpur's championship clubs.
