4 Day Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi Golf Itinerary
Malaysia gives you two golf worlds in one short trip: the championship city courses of Kuala Lumpur, where the PGA Tour and the European Tour have played, and the rainforest and seafront golf of Langkawi, an island of jungle, eagles and the Andaman Sea. Four days links the two, two rounds in the city, a one-hour flight, two rounds in paradise. Here is the plan, with the courses, the 2026 fees and the travel between them.

Who this trip suits
This is the itinerary for golfers who want variety, value and a stopover that earns its place on the way to or from Australia or the Far East. It suits buddies trips, couples and anyone breaking a long-haul journey: two days of serious tournament golf in a world-class city, then two days of bucket-list scenery on an island where the course runs down to the beach. Kuala Lumpur handles the nightlife, the food and the shopping; Langkawi handles the wow.
The shape is dictated by geography. The marquee city courses sit around half an hour from central KL, so you base in the city for two nights, then fly north to Langkawi for two more. For wider context see our Malaysia golf hub, the best courses in Malaysia, the how to play golf in Langkawi guide and the Malaysia golf holidays page.
The 4 day plan
| Day | The golf | The travel | The night |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Arrive Kuala Lumpur, play TPC Kuala Lumpur West, the par 72 redesigned by Parslow and Winter that has hosted the CIMB Classic and the Maybank Championship in Bukit Kiara | KL city to Bukit Kiara, about 20 to 30 minutes | Kuala Lumpur |
| Day 2 | Saujana, the Palm Course, Ronald Fream's 1986 design nicknamed the Cobra, a tree-lined par 72 of nearly 7,000 yards and one of the toughest tests around the capital; evening flight to Langkawi | City to Shah Alam about 40 minutes; KL to Langkawi flight about 1 hour | Langkawi |
| Day 3 | The Els Club Teluk Datai, Ernie Els's rainforest redesign reopened in 2014, a par 72 through 500 hectares of jungle to Datai Bay with five seafront holes and no bunkers | Langkawi airport to Datai Bay, about 40 minutes | Langkawi |
| Day 4 | Gunung Raya, the parkland and jungle course laid out beneath Langkawi's highest peak, a relaxed final round before the flight home | Course is central on the island; airport about 30 minutes | Homeward |

Why this routing works
Front-loading the city golf is the smart move. TPC Kuala Lumpur and Saujana are the two best tests around the capital and both sit close enough to a city hotel that you can play in the morning and be back among the restaurants and rooftop bars by evening, with no transfers eating into the trip. Playing them on consecutive days while your legs are fresh leaves the island for the part of the holiday you will photograph and remember.
Langkawi is the payoff. The Els Club Teluk Datai is the rare course that lives up to the brochure: macaques and hornbills in the canopy, the fairways tumbling through primary rainforest, and a closing stretch along the Andaman Sea that few courses on earth can match. Gunung Raya the next morning is a gentler, parkland counterpoint beneath the island's tallest peak, an easy finale before the flight out. Throughout, golf is a morning game here: tee off early to beat the tropical heat, carry rain gear for the short afternoon showers, and aim for the drier December to March window. Build the group around our Malaysia golf holidays page and the Malaysia green fee guide, and compare the island options in the best courses in Langkawi.

Malaysia itinerary questions
Can you combine Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi for golf?
Yes, and it makes a superb four-day trip. Play two days of championship city golf at TPC Kuala Lumpur and Saujana, both around half an hour from the centre, then take the one-hour flight to the island of Langkawi for the rainforest golf of the Els Club Teluk Datai and Gunung Raya. The contrast between metropolitan tournament courses and jungle-and-sea island layouts is the whole point.
How much does golf cost in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi in 2026?
City green fees at TPC Kuala Lumpur run indicatively from around 570 to 1,240 Malaysian ringgit depending on course and day, with Saujana similar, while Langkawi's courses are generally a touch lower. Weekday rates are notably cheaper than weekends. All fees are indicative and seasonal, so always confirm directly before booking.
What is the best course in Langkawi?
The Els Club Teluk Datai is the headline. Originally opened in 1992 and redesigned by Ernie Els between 2012 and 2014, it runs through 500 hectares of ancient rainforest down to the crescent beach of Datai Bay, with five seafront holes, resident wildlife and no bunkers. Gunung Raya, beneath Langkawi's highest peak, is the parkland complement.
When is the best time to play golf in Malaysia?
Malaysia plays year round, but the drier, more reliable window is roughly December to March, while the wetter months bring afternoon downpours that are usually short. Tee off early to beat the midday heat and humidity, and carry rain gear whatever the season. The golf is tropical, so plan rounds for the cooler mornings.
