Golf in Stockholm
The Swedish capital is one of northern Europe's most rewarding golf city breaks. Within an hour of the old town sit a Robert Trent Jones Jr championship complex rated the best in Sweden, a Jack Nicklaus redesign on a glittering lake, a King's Course that hosted the European Tour, and royal parkland on crown land. The long Nordic summer light keeps you playing past nine in the evening.

Why golf in Stockholm
Stockholm gives a traveling group two things that rarely come together: a genuinely world class set of courses and one of Europe's most beautiful capital cities to come back to each evening. The headline venues sit out among the lakes and farmland to the north and west of the city, between 25 minutes and an hour by car, so a group can stay in the heart of the old town, dine well at night and still be on the first tee by mid morning. The golf is northern parkland and lakeside at its purest: firm, well kept turf, water everywhere, birch and pine, and the clean light of a Scandinavian summer.
The marquee experience is Bro Hof Slott, the Robert Trent Jones Jr complex on the shore of Lake Malaren that is consistently rated the number one course in Sweden and one of the finest in continental Europe. Add Jack Nicklaus's reworking of Ullna, the championship King's Course at Kungsangen that staged years of European Tour golf, and the history of Stockholms Golfklubb and Royal Drottningholm, and the city makes a characterful long weekend that non golfers will enjoy as much as the players, with the archipelago, the palaces and the food scene all on the doorstep.
The courses that matter
Bro Hof Slott, Stadium Course · Robert Trent Jones Jr, 2007
Sweden's number one course and a regular in continental Europe's top thirty. A bold Robert Trent Jones Jr design on Lake Malaren, stretching past 8,000 yards from the very back to rank among the longest top courses on the continent. The showpiece round of any Stockholm trip.
Ullna Golf Club · Sven Tumba 1981, Nicklaus redesign 2011
Originally laid out by Swedish sporting hero Sven Tumba in 1981 and extensively rebuilt by Jack Nicklaus in 2011, Ullna wraps around a lake northeast of the city. A long time European Tour host, it pairs classic parkland with modern, water guarded modern design about 30 minutes from the center.
Kungsangen, King's Course · Anders Forsbrand
A purpose built championship course designed by Swedish tour player Anders Forsbrand that hosted the Scandinavian Masters and European Tour golf, with one of the great closing par 5s on the circuit. The King's and its sister Queen's Course sit west of the city, an easy add to a group itinerary.
Stockholms Golfklubb · Morrison and Sundblom, 1932
Sweden's second oldest club, with a mature parkland course at Kevinge laid out in 1932 by John Morrison of Colt, Alison and Morrison together with Rafael Sundblom. A short drive north of the city center, it is the classicist's round in town, traditional and beautifully treed.
Royal Drottningholm Golf Club
A parkland course on Swedish crown land barely a kilometer from the royal family's summer palace, and the venue for the first ever Volvo Open in 1970. History, royal setting and an easy reach from the city make it a memorable, characterful round to round out a Stockholm week.
Designers, opening years and tournament history verified June 2026 from the clubs and recognized course databases. Bro Hof Slott's Stadium Course is a Robert Trent Jones Jr design opened in 2007 and rated Sweden's number one; Ullna was laid out by Sven Tumba in 1981 and redesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 2011; Kungsangen's King's Course is by Anders Forsbrand; Stockholms Golfklubb dates to 1932. Access, conditioning and visitor policy change, so confirm with each club before planning.
When to go: the Stockholm golf season
| Window | What to expect |
|---|---|
| May to Jun | The pick of the year: courses fresh after the thaw, mild temperatures, light stretching toward midnight and tee sheets not yet at their busiest |
| Jul to Aug | Peak summer, warmest and busiest as Swedes take their holidays; book ahead and enjoy golf late into the long Nordic evening |
| Sep to early Oct | A fine, quieter shoulder with autumn color through the birch and pine; cooler and a little wetter, with the season winding down by mid October |
| Nov to Apr | Cold, short days and frequent closures; not a window for a dedicated golf trip, though the city remains a magical winter break |
May to September is the golf season. Green fees and rates change by season and year; always confirm directly before booking.
Getting there, costs and where to stay
Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) is well connected across Europe and North America and sits about 40 minutes north of the city by the Arlanda Express train or by car, which conveniently places it near several of the courses. The marquee venues are spread through the lake country north and west of the city, between 25 minutes and an hour by car, so a hire car or a driver makes a multi course trip straightforward. Most groups base in central Stockholm for the food, the design hotels and the archipelago, and drive out to the golf each day.
Sweden is not a budget destination, but green fees are fair for the quality, and the city carries the rest of the experience. We can pair the right central hotel with the best of the Stockholm clubs and arrange the tee times and transfers as one package, including the harder bookings at Bro Hof Slott.
