La Finca Golf

La Finca is the polished, resort era counterpoint to the Costa Blanca's older courses, a Pepe Gancedo design from 2002 spread across the wide Vega Baja valley near Algorfa. Generous fairways, creative greens and a five star hotel and spa on site make it the comfortable, all in one base for a southern Costa Blanca golf week.

The verdict

By the time Pepe Gancedo laid out La Finca in 2002, the brief had changed from the tight, dramatic courses of the early Costa Blanca to something broader and more resort friendly. The result is a par 72 that gives the better player room to open the shoulders while keeping plenty of interest through clever green complexes and well placed water.

What sets it apart is the package around the golf: a five star hotel and spa, restaurants and full practice facilities, so a group can stay, eat and play without leaving the estate. It still sits a short drive from the established Villamartin cluster, giving the best of both worlds. See our best of Spain ranking and the golf in Spain guide for context.

The holes worth the trip

La Finca plays more openly than its older neighbors, with wide, gently shaped fairways that invite a positive drive. The defense lies in the greens and the water: Gancedo set several putting surfaces behind or beside lakes, so the approach has to be both the right club and the right shape.

The valley setting gives long views and a relaxed rhythm, but the better player will still find the test in the second shots and around the greens, where contour and short grass leave a real choice of recovery. It is a course you can score on while still being made to think.

Its comfort and space make it an easy anchor for a week that also takes in the tighter Las Ramblas and the mature Villamartin, all within a short transfer in the Orihuela and Algorfa area.

Where to stay nearby

La Finca's biggest draw is its self contained resort: a five star hotel and spa, serviced apartments and villas, several restaurants and full practice facilities, so most golfers stay on site and walk to the first tee. The inland valley setting is quieter than the coastal strip but still close to the beaches.

From this base a group can drive a short way to the coastal courses, so a La Finca week easily folds in Villamartin and Las Ramblas for variety across the stay.
