Natadola Bay Golf Course
Vijay Singh designed Natadola Bay on the southwest coast of Viti Levu, and since 2009 it has been Fiji's premier golf course. A par 72 of about 6,567 yards beside the InterContinental resort, it brings the Pacific into play across most of its holes, an hour from Nadi airport and worth every minute of the drive.

The verdict
Fiji's own Vijay Singh laid out Natadola Bay on the rugged southwest coast of Viti Levu, the country's largest island, and it opened in 2009 as the nation's finest course. A par 72 of about 6,567 yards, it tumbles through coastal hills with the ocean as a backdrop on the majority of its holes, and in 2016 Singh returned with architect Greg Letsche to refine ten of the eighteen.
It is a genuine destination course, dramatic, beautifully conditioned and a short transfer from the InterContinental Fiji resort that sits beside it. Carts are usually included given the spread of the routing, and the green fees are reasonable for golf of this quality in a setting this good. About an hour from Nadi international airport, it is the natural centrepiece of a South Pacific golf and beach trip.

The holes worth the trip
Natadola uses its coastal hills boldly, with elevated tees, holes that play toward the water and a strong set of par 3s framed by the Pacific. The ocean is in view on most of the round and in play on several holes, so club selection in the trade wind is half the challenge.
The 2016 work with Greg Letsche sharpened the strategy on ten holes, and the conditioning is consistently excellent. From the back tees it is a real test; from the forward markers it is a thrilling, playable round in one of golf's great settings.
Because greens and tees are spread across the terrain, a cart is usually included and welcome. Take plenty of water, enjoy the views and keep an eye on the wind off the sea, which can turn a gentle hole into a stout one.
