The Best Golf Courses in Lanzarote

Lanzarote is a volcanic island of black lava fields and whitewashed villages, and its golf is unlike anywhere else in Europe: fairways carved through rugged volcanic country under year round sun. There are just two courses on the island, but both are genuinely good, and between them they make a fine winter golf break with the Timanfaya volcanoes and the Cesar Manrique landscape on the doorstep. Here they are, ranked, with our verdict on each.

How we chose them

Lanzarote is a small island and an honest list: two courses, both worth your time, set in one of the most distinctive golf landscapes anywhere. This is not the Costa del Sol with fifty fairways to choose from; it is a winter sun escape where the golf is a part of the holiday rather than the whole of it, wrapped around volcanoes, beaches and the island's singular art and architecture. We rank the two island courses here and point you to the nearby Canary Islands where the choice widens.

Every fact here was checked at the time of writing, and green fees on the island remain reasonable across the 2026 season. Both courses welcome visitors readily and sit close to the main resorts at Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise. The verdicts and the order are ours. If you want Lanzarote built into a costed winter golf break, with Fuerteventura's extra courses added for a longer trip, that is exactly what our concierge does.

The ranking

01

Lanzarote Golf

Ron Kirby, opened 2008 · Puerto del Carmen · visitors welcome

The better and more modern of the island's two courses, one of three Canarian layouts by the late American architect Ron Kirby. It runs to about 6,266 meters and a par of 72 across rugged hillside above Puerto del Carmen, where low lava walls angle across the fairways and black volcanic waste areas frame the holes, never more so than in the run from the 11th to the 14th. Sea views, sound conditioning and a real sense of place, less than ten minutes from the airport.

02

Costa Teguise Golf

John Harris, opened 1978 · Costa Teguise · visitors welcome

The island's original course and a complete contrast, a John Harris design from 1978 set at the foot of an inactive volcano and softened by thousands of mature palms, so that it plays greener and more parkland in feel than its volcanic neighbor. Friendly, walkable and well established, with full practice facilities and a relaxed clubhouse, it is an easy and enjoyable round beside the Costa Teguise resort.

Lanzarote golf questions

How many golf courses are there in Lanzarote?

Two. Lanzarote Golf above Puerto del Carmen, a 2008 Ron Kirby design across volcanic hillside, and Costa Teguise Golf, a palm lined John Harris course from 1978 at the foot of a volcano. Both welcome visitors, and golfers wanting more variety usually add the neighboring island of Fuerteventura, a short hop away. Always confirm tee times directly before booking.

What is the best golf course in Lanzarote?

Lanzarote Golf at Puerto del Carmen, the more modern and more dramatic of the two. Ron Kirby's 2008 layout plays through genuine volcanic country, with lava walls and black waste areas framing a par 72 of about 6,266 meters and sea views throughout. Costa Teguise is the gentler, greener alternative. Both are worth playing on a winter break.

Is Lanzarote good for a golf holiday?

Yes, as a winter sun break where golf is part of a wider holiday rather than a fifty course marathon. The two island courses give you contrasting rounds in a remarkable volcanic setting, with reliable winter weather, good beaches and the Timanfaya National Park alongside. For a golf intensive week, pair it with Fuerteventura or the wider Canaries.

When is the best time to play golf in Lanzarote?

Lanzarote plays year round thanks to its subtropical climate, but the most comfortable window runs October to April, when European courses are closed for winter and the island stays warm and dry. Midsummer is hot and best played early. Always check the forecast and confirm tee times for your dates.
