The Best Golf Courses in Piedmont

Piedmont is Italy's quiet golf heavyweight. Within an hour or so of Turin sit a clutch of championship courses that have hosted the Italian Open, from Robert Trent Jones parkland to John Morrison heathland, set against Alpine foothills and the wine hills of the Langhe. Here are the five we rank first, and why.

How we chose them

Piedmont has around forty clubs, so this is a clear order of the courses worth crossing the country for rather than a directory of all of them. We weighed design pedigree, tournament history, conditioning and setting, and we favored the layouts that give a traveling golfer a reason to build a trip around them rather than play in passing. The region's Italian Open hosts naturally rise to the top.

Every designer and detail here was checked at the time of writing, and the verdicts and the order are ours. The headline is a close one between two very different courses: the Robert Trent Jones power of Royal Park I Roveri near Turin and the classic heathland charm of Biella Le Betulle in the hills. The ranking

01

Royal Park I Roveri

Robert Trent Jones Sr · Fiano, near Turin · par 72

The best course in Piedmont and one of the finest in Italy. Set in the protected La Mandria park outside Turin, the original eighteen is a Robert Trent Jones Senior design later joined by a second course, and the club has hosted the Italian Open. It blends muscular, well bunkered championship golf with a beautiful, mature woodland setting, the round most serious visitors build a Piedmont trip around.

02

Golf Club Biella Le Betulle

John Morrison, 1958 · Magnano, Biella hills · par 73

The connoisseur's choice and often rated the single best course in Italy. John Morrison routed Le Betulle through birch and pine in the hills above Biella in 1958, a true heathland in the British tradition with firm turf, clever greens and total seclusion. It is a quieter, more old fashioned pleasure than Royal Park, and for many golfers the most memorable round in the region.

03

Golf Club Castelconturbia

Robert Trent Jones Sr · Agrate Conturbia, near Novara · 27 holes

A Robert Trent Jones Senior design of 27 holes near Novara and Lake Maggiore, built out from one of Italy's oldest courses and host of the Italian Open in 1991 and 1998. The three nines combine into strong championship combinations through rolling, tree lined country, with the Alps on the horizon. A polished, big match venue that anchors the Novara cluster.

04

Circolo Golf Bogogno

Robert von Hagge, 1997 · Bogogno, near Novara · two par 72 courses

The modern resort of the group, with two contrasting Robert von Hagge eighteens, Del Conte and Bonora, opened in 1997 in the foothills toward Lake Maggiore with Monte Rosa as a backdrop. Bold American style shaping, water and big greens give it a different flavor to the region's classics, and the on site lodging makes it an easy two course base.

05

Circolo Golf Torino La Mandria

Founded 1924 · Fiano, in the royal La Mandria park · two 18 hole courses

One of Italy's oldest and grandest clubs, set in the former royal hunting estate of La Mandria alongside Royal Park. Its two eighteens roll through the protected parkland of ancient oaks, mature, walkable and quietly aristocratic rather than long, and they share the setting that makes this corner near Turin the heart of Piedmont golf. A lovely, historic companion round.

Golf in Piedmont: questions

What is the best golf course in Piedmont?

Royal Park I Roveri near Turin is our pick for the best in Piedmont, a Robert Trent Jones Senior parkland that has hosted the Italian Open. Golf Club Biella Le Betulle, a John Morrison heathland often rated Italy's finest, runs it close, with Castelconturbia, Bogogno and the historic La Mandria completing the region's top tier.

How many golf courses are there in Piedmont?

Piedmont has around forty golf clubs, more than enough for a focused trip, concentrated near Turin, in the hills of Biella and around Novara and Lake Maggiore. Several have hosted the Italian Open, which is why the region punches above its weight, and the courses pair naturally with the wine country of the Langhe and the Alpine foothills.

When is the best time to play golf in Piedmont?

Late spring and early autumn, roughly May to June and September to October, are ideal, with warm, settled days and the courses in peak condition. Autumn doubles as the truffle and grape harvest in the Langhe, a fine time to pair golf with the table. High summer is warm and the depth of winter quiet, with the high courses closed.

How much does golf in Piedmont cost in 2026?

Indicative 2026 weekday green fees at the leading clubs run from around 55 to 130 euro, with weekends and peak dates higher and resort and multi round rates available. Piedmont is good value next to the Mediterranean resorts. All figures move with season, so always confirm directly before booking.
