The Best Golf Courses in Bahrain
Bahrain keeps its golf compact. One championship grass course, one of the oldest desert courses in the Gulf and a clever par 3 layout sit within a few minutes of each other in Riffa and Awali. It is an easy long weekend, often paired with the Bahrain Grand Prix. Our ranked three, with the verdict on each, the designers and indicative 2026 green fees.

How we ranked them
Bahrain is a small island and its golf is concentrated rather than spread, which makes the choice simple. There is one true championship test, the Montgomerie Course at the Royal Golf Club, and it stands clearly above the rest as the kingdom's only grass course of tournament standard. Behind it sits a piece of golf history, the all sand course at Awali, where the greens are oiled browns and the game has been played since the 1930s. We weight design quality, conditioning and a sense of place, and on a short island that sense of place runs from manicured links style desert golf to a course unlike anything in modern golf. Most visitors play the Royal Golf Club for the headline round and add Awali for the curiosity and the story.
The ranking
The Royal Golf Club, Montgomerie Course
The best round in the country and Bahrain's only championship grass course, an 18 hole par 72 stretching to about 7,102 yards designed by Colin Montgomerie and opened in November 2008 at the heart of the Riffa Views community, roughly 25 kilometres from Manama. It blends links and desert character, with floodlights for evening play. The course hosted the inaugural Volvo Golf Champions on the European Tour in 2011 and more recently the DP World Tour's Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. The obvious centrepiece of any Bahrain golf trip.

The most unusual round you will play anywhere, an 18 hole course of about 6,734 yards laid out entirely on sand and established in 1937, one of the oldest desert courses in the Gulf. The greens are browns, fine sand bound with oil and rolled smooth, and the fairways are compacted local sand cleared of stones. Built for the international workforce of the Bahrain Petroleum Company, it has hosted the Bahrain Open since 1964 and remains a living piece of golf history rather than a manicured test. Play it for the story.

Alongside the championship course at the Royal Golf Club, the Wee Monty is a floodlit nine hole par 3 layout, a quick and enjoyable round for an evening, a warm up or a family group. It will not anchor a trip on its own, but as a relaxed second tee time at the same well run club it earns its place and keeps the golf going after dark in the cooler months.
