Texas Golf Holidays: Where to Stay and Play
Texas quietly became a destination: PGA Frisco's Fields Ranch hosts the 2027 PGA Championship, Houston's Memorial Park is the best municipal redesign in America, and the Hill Country resorts between Austin and San Antonio tie it all into a proper week. Here is the statewide swing, planned.

Who this trip suits
The Texas holiday is for golfers who want big modern courses, real value and zero pretension. Nobody comes here for links golf; you come because the state now holds a genuine major venue you can book, a $13.5 million Tom Doak municipal you can play for double digits as a twilight visitor, Tour venues attached to family friendly resorts, and barbecue, live music and three distinct cities between the rounds.
It suits buddies trips that want four rounds and a night on Austin's Sixth Street, couples who split spa and golf at the Hill Country resorts, and anyone routing a wider American trip through Dallas or Houston's hub airports. If you want one resort and no driving, our Texas golf packages page covers the Hill Country stay and play version of this trip.
The courses to build around
Fields Ranch East, PGA Frisco
The anchor round. Gil Hanse and Beau Welling built Fields Ranch on rolling ranchland north of Dallas, and the East course hosts the 2027 PGA Championship, which makes this the rare future major venue a visitor can simply book. It is walking only with a caddie required, around $252 to $277 including the caddie in 2026, with Omni PGA Frisco resort guests getting booking priority and the West course as the second round. Note the East closes Wednesdays for maintenance.
Memorial Park, Houston
America's best argument for municipal golf. Tom Doak's Renaissance Golf rebuilt Memorial Park for $13.5 million, finished in late 2019 with player input from Brooks Koepka, and the PGA Tour's Houston Open moved straight in. Non residents pay roughly $90 to $140 in 2026 depending on day and time, a fraction of comparable Tour venues, and the walk under the pines in the middle of Houston is unlike anything else on this trip. Book the tee time the moment your dates firm up.
TPC San Antonio, the Oaks
The Valero Texas Open's home, a Greg Norman design shaped with Sergio Garcia through the oaks of the Hill Country's southern edge. Access comes through stay and play at the attached JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country resort, which adds Pete Dye's Canyons course, a water park the kids will not leave and an easy run into San Antonio for the Riverwalk and the Alamo.
The Hill Country resorts
Between Austin and Marble Falls, Omni Barton Creek's Fazio courses and Horseshoe Bay's three Robert Trent Jones Sr layouts supply the resort spine of the trip: multiple courses per property, pools and spas for the non players, and tee sheets that hold up even in peak season. These are covered in depth, with package ranges, on our Texas Hill Country golf holidays page.

A sample seven night statewide swing
Fly into Dallas. Two nights at the Omni PGA Frisco with Fields Ranch East on day one, caddie booked, and the West or the resort's short course The Swing on day two. Drive or hop the short flight to Austin on day three for two nights at Barton Creek, playing a Fazio course in the afternoon and eating barbecue that evening. Day five, an hour southwest to the JW Marriott for the Oaks at TPC San Antonio and a Riverwalk night. Then east to Houston for the final two nights, Memorial Park as the closing round, out of Houston's hub airports home.
It is around 600 miles of driving across the week, all on fast roads, and every leg can be shortened by dropping a city. The reverse routing works equally well; just keep Fields Ranch off a Wednesday.

Best time to book
Spring, March to May, and fall, September to November, are the windows that make the whole state work at once, with the Valero Texas Open and the Houston Open both spring fixtures worth checking dates against. Summer rounds belong before 10 am; winter is mild, quiet and the value play. Book Fields Ranch and Memorial Park tee times and the resort rooms eight to twelve weeks out for spring and fall, longer if your dates sit near a tournament. Where to base each night is half the trip, so compare hotels and resorts early.
