County Sligo Golf Holidays

Benbulben on the horizon and three genuine championship links within an hour of one small town. County Sligo is the most concentrated links trip on Ireland's northwest coast. Here is who it suits, the courses to build around, a costed five night structure and indicative 2026 figures.

Who this trip suits

A Sligo golf holiday suits the golfer who wants pure links and short drives. The three core courses, County Sligo at Rosses Point, Enniscrone and Strandhill, all sit within about an hour of Sligo town, so you unpack once and play a different stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way each morning. It suits the four ball that has already done Kerry and Clare, and the buddies trip that values caddies, chowder and a quiet pub over resort polish. The tee sheets here breathe in a way an Ireland golf holiday built on Ballybunion and Lahinch no longer does.

It is also a relative value play by 2026 standards. Rosses Point now publishes a 320 euro midweek green fee, still well under what the biggest names in our list of the best golf courses in Ireland command, and Strandhill brings the daily spend back to 195 euros peak and 100 in winter. The courses to build around

The Colt Championship Links at County Sligo Golf Club, Rosses Point

County Sligo, Rosses Point

Colt championship links · Indicative 2026 fee €320 midweek

The anchor of the trip. Founded in 1894 and reshaped by Harry Colt in the 1920s, Rosses Point hosts the West of Ireland Championship and stares straight at Benbulben. Published 2026 rates run 320 euros Monday to Thursday, 350 on Friday and Sunday afternoons and 375 on Saturday afternoons, with a day ticket from 585 euros, the Bomore 9 at 75 and caddies from 90.

The Dunes course at Enniscrone Golf Club, giant sandhills on Killala Bay, County Sligo

Enniscrone

Hackett and Steel dunes · Indicative 2026 fee €290

The second marquee round, about an hour southwest on Killala Bay. Eddie Hackett routed the modern Dunes course through some of the tallest sandhills in Irish golf, and Donald Steel later pushed more holes into them. The club publishes a single 290 euro rate on the Dunes from March 17 to October 31, with the 9 hole Scurmore course at 40 euros for the warm up.

Strandhill

Par 70, founded 1931 · Indicative 2026 fee €195 peak

The local hero, squeezed between the Atlantic and Knocknarea mountain beside one of Ireland's liveliest surf villages. Founded in 1931, this par 70 plays far bigger than its yardage once the wind gets up. Peak 2026 visitor rates run 195 euros from mid March to the end of October, dropping to 100 in winter, and the village afterward is half the point.

Links golf in County Donegal, an easy day trip north from a Sligo base

The longer loop: Murvagh and Carne

Day trips north and west · Murvagh €210 in 2026

Donegal Golf Club at Murvagh, about an hour north on a forested peninsula in Donegal Bay, publishes a 210 euro visitor rate for 18 holes in high season, 300 for 36, and pairs naturally with our County Donegal golf packages. Westward, Carne Golf Links in the Belmullet dunes is a longer run but turns five nights into a true northwest pilgrimage.

Founding dates, designers and layouts verified June 2026. Green fees are indicative club published figures for the 2026 season, vary by day and time, and change with demand. Always confirm directly before booking.

Where to stay and getting there

Three bases cover almost every trip. Rosses Point village puts the Yeats Country Hotel, Spa and Leisure Club a short walk from the County Sligo links. The Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa Sligo at Ballincar, 132 rooms with a spa and pool, sits between the town and the Point, less than ten minutes from the golf club by car. In Sligo town, the Glasshouse is a four star on the Garavogue river roughly 7 kilometers from both Rosses Point and Strandhill. Getting in is simple: Ireland West Airport Knock is about 45 minutes by road, Dublin is around 208 kilometers and roughly two hours and forty minutes by motorway. Golfers landing in Dublin often break the drive with a round at Portmarnock before heading west.

Best time to book

Peak season runs from mid March to the end of October at Strandhill and Enniscrone, and from March 15 to November 15 on the Colt links at Rosses Point, where weekend visitor tee times only open from 1pm. May, June and September are the sweet spot for daylight, turf and tee sheet space, and the West of Ireland Championship takes over Rosses Point in spring, so check the fixture list. For a peak summer trip, book the marquee Rosses Point time four to six months out and build the route around it; shoulder season trips usually come together inside a few weeks. Winter golfers playing Strandhill at 100 euros enjoy some of the best value on the entire Wild Atlantic Way.
