The news

The 126th U.S. Open is staged at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, with championship play from Thursday June 18 to Sunday June 21, 2026, following practice rounds earlier that week. It is the sixth time the club has hosted the championship, a lineage that stretches back to 1896, the second U.S. Open ever played, and runs through 1986, 1995, 2004 and the most recent edition in 2018.

Shinnecock is one of the five founding member clubs of the USGA, and few venues carry more weight on the championship calendar. The course the players meet in 2026 is essentially the William Flynn design of 1931, restored and lengthened, a par 70 that stretched to about 7,440 yards when Brooks Koepka won here in 2018 at one over par. The number tells the story: at Shinnecock, level par is a triumph.
