How to Play Wentworth: Tee Times and Booking

The West Course at Wentworth, Harry Colt's Burma Road through the Surrey pines, is the permanent home of the BMW PGA Championship and one of the most coveted rounds in England. It is also a private members' club with no public green fee, so getting on takes a plan. Here is exactly how access works in 2026, what a round costs, and the realistic routes in if you do not know a member.

The short answer

You cannot simply book Wentworth. The club is private, and the West Course is open only to members and their guests, with no walk up tee time and no public green fee. If you know a member, the round comes as their guest, at a guest fee they settle. If you do not, the realistic route is an organised corporate or charity golf day held at the club, where places on the West are sold as part of the event. Hospitality around the BMW PGA Championship each September gets you onto the grounds but not the course. Indicative guest fees run from around 195 pounds in winter to 360 pounds or more in summer. Always confirm current access and cost directly with the club or your host.

The West Course, and what you are paying for

Wentworth's West Course is a Harry Colt design that opened in the late 1920s and earned the nickname the Burma Road for its demanding length and the way it winds through Surrey pine and heather. Ernie Els, the club's champion in residence, has redesigned it twice, first in 2010, lengthening the course and rebuilding greens and bunkers, then again in 2016, reworking five greens and installing a sub air system beneath every putting surface, the first of its kind in England. It plays to a par of 73 at around 7,300 yards and has been the permanent home of the BMW PGA Championship since 1984, so most golfers arrive knowing the closing stretch by heart from television.

That tournament pedigree is much of what a round here buys: the chance to play a course you have watched the best in Europe wrestle with every May, finished by the famous par 5 eighteenth past the grandstands. Conditioning is immaculate year round, the clubhouse and hospitality are first class, and the standard guest fee reflects all of it. If the West is the dream, plan around a member invitation or a corporate day, and treat the cost as the price of one of England's most televised rounds.

If you cannot get on, play these nearby

Wentworth sits in the heart of the Surrey heathland, the richest seam of inland golf in England, so a trip need never hinge on a single round. Within a short drive lie a cluster of the country's finest heathland courses, several of them far more accessible to visitors, with the firm, fast, heather lined golf that defines the region. Build a week around those, hold a Wentworth corporate day or member round as the centrepiece if it comes off, and you have one of the best inland golf trips in Britain whether or not the Burma Road comes through. That is how we plan it.

Wentworth access questions

Can the public play Wentworth?

Not on a public green fee. Wentworth is a private members' club, and the famous West Course can only be played as the guest of a member or through an organised corporate or charity golf day. There is no walk up or online visitor booking for the West Course. The realistic routes in are a member invitation, a corporate or charity event held at the club, or a hospitality package around the BMW PGA Championship. Always confirm current access directly with the club.

How much does it cost to play the West Course at Wentworth?

Guest green fees, paid by the inviting member, run from around 195 pounds in winter to 360 pounds or more in summer, and can rise further at peak times and on the West Course specifically. Corporate golf days are priced per package rather than per green fee. Because there is no standard visitor rate, treat these as indicative figures and confirm the current cost through your host or the club's events team before booking.

Who designed the West Course at Wentworth?

Harry Colt designed the West Course, which opened in the late 1920s and became known as the Burma Road for its demanding length and routing through the Surrey pine and heather. Ernie Els, the club's champion in residence, has since carried out two major redesigns, in 2010 and again in 2016, lengthening the course, rebuilding greens and adjusting the bunkering. It plays to a par of 73 at around 7,300 yards and has been the permanent home of the BMW PGA Championship since 1984.

What is the best way to get a round at Wentworth?

If you do not know a member, the most reliable route is an organised corporate or charity golf day held at the club, where places on the West Course are sold as part of the event. Hospitality around the BMW PGA Championship in September gives access to the grounds though not the course. We can advise on which corporate days come up and how to secure a place, and build a Surrey heathland trip around the courses you can book directly nearby.
