How to Play the Best Golf in Quebec

Why Quebec is worth the detour

Most traveling golfers file Canada under British Columbia mountain golf or the Cabot links of Nova Scotia and never look at the province in between. That is a mistake. Quebec plays golf in two distinct registers: resort golf at Mont Tremblant, where the ski hill turns into one of eastern Canada's best 54 hole bases each summer, and river golf in Charlevoix and around Quebec City, where fairways hang above the widening St. Lawrence. Add French clubhouse cooking and drive times that rarely pass two hours, and it builds into a trip no other province can copy.

The catch, as everywhere in Canada, is the calendar. Courses open in May, peak in July and August and close by late October, with September the connoisseur's pick for empty tee sheets and the first burn of fall color in the Laurentians. How to book it, step by step

1. Pick your base, or chain two. Mont Tremblant gives you Le Geant, Le Diable and Le Maitre within minutes of a walkable resort village, about 90 minutes from Montreal. Quebec City puts La Tempete twenty minutes away and feeds the drive northeast to Charlevoix and the Manoir Richelieu. The Eastern Townships, with Owl's Head, suit a quieter lake and vineyard loop south of Montreal. The classic week runs Montreal to Tremblant to Quebec City to Charlevoix.
2. Fix dates around the short season. Courses open roughly May to October; the Manoir Richelieu takes 2026 bookings from April 20 to October 31. July and August are peak. September is the value and color play.
3. Book Tremblant first. The resort's tee sheet for 2026 opened on March 3 and weekend mornings in peak summer go early. Both resort courses include a cart in the rate, and twilight rounds from 3 p.m. drop to CAD 49.
4. Use the right channel for the private doors. Le Maitre is a ClubLink members' club; a stay and play through a resort hotel such as the Fairmont Tremblant is the established route in. 5. Sort ground logistics. Fly into Montreal or Quebec City, rent a car and keep the drives honest: Montreal to Tremblant is about 90 minutes, Quebec City to La Malbaie about two hours along the river.
